One of the best examples of energy deregulation succeeding is in Texas. It started back in 2002; Texans were baffled by this new energy concept. I\’m going to be billed by whom? Why are there so many retailers? What happens if I switch? Very valid questions, indeed, and during that time, everyone was asking the exact same things. Cut to ten years later and Texas is one of the most well adjusted states that has adapted the deregulation structure and has thrived with it instead of failing.

Of course, there will always be opposition to new and radical ideas, that\’s expected. But what we all have to realize is that the government officials and businesses who are for energy deregulation know that it\’s worth the initial hardship; there will be a period of adjustment. But try to concentrate on the positive. With choosing your preferred retailer comes perks: if you patronize a particular retailer, they might have loyalty rewards in place for customers like you. How does a discount card sound? What about cash back on your bills?

Another advantage is getting to stand up for what you believe in. If you are a big environmentalist, you have a wider variety of plans to choose from if you live in a state that\’s deregulated. Retailers often have plans that describe what kind of energy source they use in providing you with electricity. So if you don\’t want to use fossil fuel, or nuclear energy, or anything similar, you don\’t have to.

In the end, the keyword here has always been pro-consumer: choice. It is yours. Think twice and hard, and then take advantage of that gift.
