Celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee With a Royal-Inspired Party Dress!

This June, people across the UK will take to their gardens, local pubs and town centres to celebrate a major event – two extra days off work. Of course, what they’ll really be celebrating is our beloved Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. It’s been 60 years since Queen Elizabeth II took to the throne, and it’s a certainty you’ll be invited to some kind of celebration. This means only one thing: you’re going to need a new dress.

Picking a party dress for a non-themed occasion is hard enough, but the added hurdle of matching a dress to an event makes the process doubly daunting. Luckily, regal-inspired fashion should come naturally after last year’s Royal Wedding, which saw literally thousands of women fight over Union Jack-decorated dresses on eBay.

That brings us onto our first jubilee fashion route; the good old Union Jack. A truly iconic flag, just a glimpse of the red, white and blue is enough to make any Brit swell with pride. It’s also a staple of women’s fashion. There are plenty of dresses adorned with the Union Jack, and you should be able to find one for relatively cheap if you shop around. If you want to go for something a bit different however, team a dress with some Union Jack print tights, which are both patriotic and eye-catching. Just like The Queen!

Want to invoke the patriotic glamour of the Union Jack without actually wearing the pattern? Go for a dress in red, white or blue. The best of three, however, is the regal red. Not only is this is most eye-catching part of the flag, but it also invokes images of other British icons; beefeaters, the ‘Keep Calm and Carry On’ posters that have enjoyed a renaissance recently and traditional post boxes. Don’t worry though – wearing the same shade as a post box doesn’t mean you’ll look like one!

To really nail that regal look, you’re going to have to bring to mind the affluence of being in the social elite. Keep an eye out for gold trims and detailing on any party dresses – luckily, as there’s been a bit of a vintage revival in recent years, these types of clothing aren’t anywhere near as hard to find as they used to be!

All of this, however, overlooks the fact that Queen Liz is somewhat of a style icon herself! 60 years of royal glamour should give you plenty to work from, but make sure you don’t copy the Queen exactly – after all, she’s a head of state and doesn’t really dress for parties! Take inspiration from some of her favourite colours; these have tended to be blues and greens. If you’re feeling particularly brave, opt for some Queen-inspired headwear too!

If you’re not particularly keen on the idea of taking party dress inspiration from the Queen, why not go for a younger member of the family? Kate Middleton is one of the most stylish women in the world, with her wedding dress sending people into a total spin with how gorgeous it was. Her sister, Pippa, also reminded everyone of an age-old fashion adage at the same event – a well fitted dress does wonders for a figure! We’re not suggesting that your bum will feature on front pages worldwide, but make sure to choose a dress that properly accentuates your features.

The Diamond Jubilee will see the nation celebrating a historic milestone in the life of an iconic figure. You’re almost bound to be inviting to one of these celebrations, so follow our tips to make sure you’ve got the right party dress for a royal celebration!
