Different Types of Natural Flooring You Can Use in Your Home

The use of natural flooring in any home is always the best idea for decoration. Floorings such as carpets that are made of natural materials have proven to be more durable and resilient than its synthetic counterparts. This is why more and more homeowners are favoring natural fibers to use as their floorings. While most carpets nowadays are made of partially natural and partially synthetic, there are still quite a lot of choices for entirely naturally made carpets out there. These carpets are championed by many people because of their lavish texture, intricate and authentic weaves, and because they are environmentally friendly being made from sustainable materials. Here are some of the most popular natural fibers to use as floorings.

Wool Carpets

Wool is probably the most common natural fiber used in the creation of carpets and rugs. There are so many wonderful things to using wool as natural flooring to any home. It is very durable and can withstand heavy foot traffic and produce minimal signs of wear and tear. It is also resistant to stain, dirt and fire and has a special coating that turns small piles of water to beads making it very easy to dry. But even if wool can transform small piles of water into beads, it is still best that you keep it in dry places as mildew can form on wool.

Wool is also said to be the best choice for insulating your home as it its individual wool fibers hold and maintain air. With that said, this material makes your home sound proof and a good heating material for your home during the cold winter months.

“Seagrass” Carpets

If you want a tropical vibe to your home, a carpet made out of Seagrass is a great choice. This has a smooth and shiny finish so be careful where you place them in your home. Seagrass are grown much like rice in paddy fields flooded by seawater and come harvest time is sundried before turning into strings. This is the most water repellant natural fiber carpet you can ever find as it is almost fully impermeable and you can easily wipe out spills and piles of water. This also means that stains and dirt is not a problem with this carpet. Unfortunately, there is much less variations in terms of color with this material. Being the impermeable one, it can’t be dyed so you can only find carpets made of such in its natural color: brown.

“Coir” Carpets

Coir is another natural fiber used on many carpets but is not used widely because of its coarse and rough texture. It is made of coconut husk, so you can just imagine how rough its texture must be. This is why carpets made of coir are usually placed in areas where one wouldn’t normally sit or lie on it such as the doorway because it is an uncomfortable material.

These three are just some of the most common natural flooring that is used in many homes. There are other more that you can find but these are what you would normally encounter. Consider using natural fiber as flooring for your home to make it more eco friendly and more sustainable.
