Let Grand Canyon Airlines Be Your Guide to the National Park
If you are planning on flying the Grand Canyon, definitely give consideration to Grand Canyon Airlines. The company, based in Las Vegas, NV, was founded in 1927 and has been providing high-quality air tours to the West Rim and the South Rim ever since.
One of the first things you need to decide before flying to the canyon is which rim you want to visit. There are two: The West Rim and the South Rim. The former is located just 120 miles from Vegas, while the later is situated west of Flagstaff, AZ, and 277 miles east of Vegas.
The airplane flight from Vegas to the West Rim is under half an hour. From Vegas to the South Rim, it\’s one hour. There are no airplane flights between the two rims. Thus, if you want to see both, you\’ll have to set aside two days and book two separate trips. It\’s also key to know that most travelers go to the West Rim for thrills and adventure, and to the South Rim for majestic scenic beauty.
Grand Canyon Airlines\’ West Rim tours range from aerial to landing. The air-only trips take off from the Vegas metropolitan area and head over Lake Mead and Hoover Dam before cruising over the Grand Canyon and heading back for home. These trips are great if you are on a budget and looking to sample the canyon.
Personally, I\’m a fan of the company\’s landing tours because they give you more \”face time\” with the National Park. For instance, there\’s a package that lets you include a helicopter tour to the bottom and a boat ride down the Colorado River. Now that\’s something you can\’t do every day.
I also like one that includes an all-access pass to the Grand Canyon Skywalk. If you haven\’t heard about the glass bridge, suffice it to say it\’s quite incredible. For starters, it\’s a horseshoe-shaped structure made out of a special glass that lets you walk 70 feet past the edge of the rim. Below some 4,000 feet is the bottom!
Grand Canyon Airlines offers a fantastic trip from Las Vegas to the South Rim. For me, it\’s the only way to go. The flight takes just 1 hour and the views are spectacular. You land at Grand Canyon Airport, transfer to a deluxe tour bus, go inside the National Park, and stop at all the key points of interest.
If you are coming up from Phoenix or Sedona or Flagstaff, you\’ll most likely be taking a flight that originates from Grand Canyon Airport. Unlike the West Rim, South Rim flights are not allowed to fly below the rim or land on the bottom. Don\’t let that deter you. The 45-minute aerial flight is incredible, letting you see nearly 3/4 of the National Park.
You should also know about the South Rim’s 1-day smooth-water rafting adventure. This particular one flies you from the South Rim, lands at Page, AZ, and includes a Jeep adventure into famed Antelope Canyon prior to your embarkation on a 15-mile float tour to historic Lee\’s Ferry. This excursion is nothing short of phenomenal.
If you\’re searching for an air tour over the canyon, definitely consider Grand Canyon Airlines. This company\’s safety record is spotless, and their trips to both the West Rim and the South Rim are phenomenal. Further, their trips are priced to sell, especially if you RSVP on the Internet, which, from my own personal experience, is where they post their hottest offers. The time to fly is now. So get your seats enjoy and see the canyon in all its glory.
