Maternity Swimwear : 5 Different Types
There are basically five different types of maternity swimwear styles: Tankini, Halter, Strapless, One Piece and Bikini. Each of them can has a different type of function but all of them allow you to enjoy the being in a pool or at the beach.
Tankini maternity swimsuits are a variation on the good old American tank top. They have a wide strap that goes over each shoulder and helps with bust support. In fact, because of the double straps and being more like a bra, they tend to have greater bust support than the other styles. They usually come with straps that have adjustable clips to find that optimal point of comfort. Tankinis are a very good option for busty women.
Halter maternity bathing suits are by far the most popular of all the maternity swimwear. They have two straps that tie in a bow or knot behind the neck. This style makes the suit look more sexy and trending than a basic tank strap will. They don\’t have as much support as the tank but they do allow for creating more deeper plunging cleavage. It\’s a real fun way to spice up your maternity look.
Strapless maternity swimwear is always a really good fashion choice. They are reminiscent of the strapless evening dress and allows you to show off shoulders and more skin above the bust without being too revealing. The strapless swimsuit lets the pregnant woman show how elegant and stylish she can be. Unlike the tank or halter, there are no straps for the bra area of the suit so they are not a good option for super busty women. They do usually come with an optional removal support strap that attaches around the back of the neck for those times when needed. It is a good idea to use the strap if you are in the pool with small kids or out in the ocean and the tide is picking up.
One piece maternity swimsuits are a popular choice for pregnant women who want to hide their belly or for those who like to do physical activities like water aerobics or swim laps. Many of them, such as the Prego Empire Tank, actually offer more support than the regular tankini and are a really good option for very large busted women. Because of the styling of the Empire Tank, large busted women will not look so large (in addition to getting that much needed support). One pieces are the best choice for water aerobics and lap swimming. They don\’t have separate parts and hug you really well so there is nothing to fly off at an inopportune moment. Wearing a basic black one piece bathing suit will give the effect of making you look smaller than you really are. Black hide the curves to make you look slimmer.
The last choice is one that has been gaining popularity with the spate of pregnant movie stars and celebrities who are wearing them – the maternity bikini. Maternity bikinis are for the less shy pregnant woman who doesn\’t mind showing off her belly. They are designed with the pregnant body in mind and certainly fit better than a pre-pregnancy one will. Some women find that their pre-pregnant bikinis work but the reality is that they are cut for a lack of curves. The pre-pregnancy bottoms tend to slide down the belly and the tops don\’t work well with the expanding pregnant bust. Maternity bikinis, on the other hand, generally have a wider bikini waist band to help hold it in place. They are also higher in Lycra content which allows them to expand. Maternity bikinis are a super sexy choice that can really showcase your new belly!
