Neck Workouts to Relieve Pain and Discomfort

The pain and discomfort in the neck may be as a result of trauma, bad posture, and muscle strain among other things. This can affect your health, cause mood swings and it could also affect the way you interact with with others. Scheduling an appointment with your doctor is a good idea but you can also do simple neck workouts to relieve pains and eliminate discomfort.

Improving your posture is essential for pain relief. You will need to tilt your head backwards and move from the right to the left several times as this will affect the skeletal muscles around the area positively. To improve decreased mobility, exercises for stiff neck need to be performed a few times a day to strengthen weak muscles.

The side resistance exercise is another way to relieve pain around the shoulder region. By using isometric motion where length remains the same while tension increases, place your right hand on the right side of the head and move the head to the right. While doing this, increase the resistance of your right hand and hold the position for a few seconds and then repeat on the left side. The exercise will safely strengthen the muscles.

Making arm circles is another way to reduce the tension around this area. Hold both arms stretched out on either side and then rotate both arms in small circles clockwise for about ten times. Repeat the action counter clockwise for the same amount of times and alternate motion for about three reps in each direction. This exercise will improve blood circulation and allow for easier movement without irritation.

While sitting straight backed with your feet flat on the floor, tilt the head back as far as it can go. If you start to feel pain, hold the position for like ten seconds before leaning forward until your chin touches your chest. While your chin is touching your chest, hold that position too for another ten seconds after which you will return your head to the normal position and for a few seconds before repeating the back tilt exercise. This improves decreased range of motion while strengthening the muscles.

Performing head rotations is another way to improve mobility. While standing with your arms at either side and knees bent slightly, rotate your head round returning momentarily to the center before moving in the same manner in the opposite direction. Do about ten repetitions each a few times a day.

If you are one who seats for a long time during the day, another way to relieve discomfort is to place your forefinger on your chin while you move your head up. Tilt you head back and front slowly to avoid sprains and injuries. Do three or four reps to loosen up and relax.

Neck workouts are designed to improve your performance during the day. They are also designed to help maintain an upright posture while making you comfortable and less irritable. It is important to follow instructions and ensure that you keep good form while performing these exercises. Be sure to consult a doctor or chiropractor if pain persists.
