With the evolution of rugs usage as time goes by, some people of our society has made a living out of it. Particularly in the streets of big cities in the Philippines, it would be impossible to notice the persons approaching the vehicles as the light turns red. They are selling round woven cloth, which is used to wipe dust and dirt of objects. Most of them are children between the ages of six to nine. Some of them are families, making use of their sheer number to outdo others or to gain much more floor in a two to four lane highway.

Temperatures at these road crossings can be reaching as high as thirty to thirty-three degrees Celsius.

At the point of view of the buyer, it is just a mere coin or an insignificant fraction of their wealth. But to those people who are sweating it out to sell, every coin from a rug is like a gem that would eventually be part of their wealth. There are even parents who succeeded to provide for the education of their children out of it. With this, we can say that they really are from “rugs to riches”.
