Staying on Trend and on Budget This Summer
The arrival of summer is something that every fashionista worth her salt looks forward to. Bulky winter coats and jumpers are consigned to the back of the wardrobe, replaced by the latest summer trends designed to keep you cool in regards to both temperature and style.
Such a drastic change in style, however, means splashing out on a brand new wardrobe. Whilst shorts and sandals will forever be a key component of summer style and can be carried over from one year to the next, pieces that looked great last year will probably look somewhat dated this year.
Staying on trend without upsetting the bank manager can be like walking a tightrope, but it needn’t be. Knowing what’s in fashion for the summer and shopping for cheap alternatives will save you money and allow you to creatively style yourself whilst staying bang on trend.
One of the biggest trends this summer will be prints. An extremely broad trend, prints encompasses a wide range of styles, from the floral prints popularised by designers like Mary Katranzou to ethnic prints inspired by tribal designs. A key aspect of the print trend is imagination – mix and match prints, and don’t be afraid to opt for ‘statement’ pieces (statement trousers are another trend to look out for this summer).
The great thing about the print trend is that it’s relatively easy to
follow without breaking the bank. Retailers specialising in cheap women’s fashion are currently offering a massive range of prints for a fraction of the price commanded by designer relatives, and at a decent quality. Different retailers also offer unique pieces; shopping around should ensure you find the print perfect for you.
Summer 2012 will also see the arrival of some distinctly different eveningwear trends. The first of these trends is inspired by pyjamas and tentatively titled ‘pyjama party’. A trend that is bound to polarise opinions, the pyjama look is based around classic silk designs and sees the relaxed loungewear style teamed with evening staples such as heels.
Whilst pyjama style will probably remain the preserve of high fashion, those feeling brave and creative should attempt a bit of customisation to get this look for cheap. Buy a pair of silk pyjamas and let your imagination run wild; use a photo for reference however, or you may look like you’ve just rolled out of bed rather than the height of fashion!
One trend that should transcend night and day is the wave of sportswear fashion heading our way. Pitched for a summer bound to be dominated by the Olympics, athletically-inspired pieces will be massive this summer. However, don’t just throw on a pair of tracksuit bottoms and a football shirt – try tailoring an oversized sportswear t-shirt into a party dress for that perfect athletic look at a snip.
Summer 2012 is shaping up to be one of the most exciting for fashion in years, with a range of trends combining to bring summer style to a whole new level. Trends this summer should also provide budget-conscious women with plenty of opportunities to stay fashionable on a budget – be it through a bit of creative customisation or picking out pieces from the wide range of retailers specialising in cheap women’s fashion.
