The Strategy of Career Pathway
The workforce development strategies which are used to support the workers with transition from education into the workforce are called the career pathway. These career pathways are collection of integrated programs and services which are inclined to provide complete education and training in such a way that the candidate are at par with the high demand and highest opportunity jobs. The strategy of career pathway is developed to increase the education, technical skills and the learning opportunities. The career pathways are thus designed as series of educational programs with complete training and services that enables the learner to improve and move to the advance level of skills. This often helps them to reach the higher level of education and employment successively. There are various steps in career pathway which has to be followed by the learner. Each step is designed in such a way that it prepares the learner to progress and reach the next level of education and employment. The most common six career pathways are arts and communication, engineering/manufacturing and industrial technology, business management and marketing, health sciences, natural resource and agricultural science and lastly human resource.
If one is creative thinker, innovative, imaginative and likes to communicate ideas, then arts and communication is the right career path. This path includes interior and fashion design, fine arts, writing films, journalism, advertising and many more. This level of education leads to career options like public relation executive, film producer, fashion designer, dancer, journalist and also radio and T.V. broadcaster. If a person enjoys being the leader in career categories like accounting, office administration, economics or if he wants to own the business, then career path related to business management and marketing is the right choice. This leads a person to be a legal economist, hotel manager, office manager, sales person, travel agent or may be an entrepreneur.
For choosing the career path like engineering/ manufacturing and industrial technology one needs to be skilled and trained to design, develop, install and maintain physical systems like engineering, manufacturing and construction services. Getting training at this level, person attains the career option of being plumber, electrician, air traffic controller auto mechanic, chemical engineers etc. If a person likes to read sciences, interested in knowing how body works, and the diseases then health science would be the career path related to it. This career path leads to doctor, hygienist, physical therapist, respiratory therapist, and technician and also veterinary if a person is animal lover.
To take up a career of police, teacher, lawyer, librarian, chef one needs to be understanding, cooperative and friendly. One should also like to solve problems and love to work for others. Person with inclination towards all this can have a career path as human services which are related to economic, political and social system. So the goals for career pathways are to increase the number of learners with certificates, and credentials and to ease the students’ transition from high school to community college and from community college to university or job. And the idea behind the career pathways is learning the skills faster and attaining higher pay in occupation which is in demand. In addition to this the idea is also to achieve certificates and degrees. These student centered career pathways changes the needs of students as well as employer with the help of community college.
