Top 3 Vendor Credentialing Issues

It’s been quite sometime since the hospitals laid down certain credentials for medical representatives who visit their hospitals for businesses. But somehow, there hasn’t been a basic structure of the credentials required neither a space to retain and update them. Therefore, there are some problems faced by both the hospitals and the vendors regarding credentialing. The top 3 issues have been discussed below.

– First – Hospitals ask for all kinds of information: The hospitals don’t have a particular type of information required. They collate various credentials from countless training certificates to permissions and physical tests and a lot more. Plus, no two hospitals are on the same page regarding this. Every hospital asks for different information, resulting in the vendors and their companies running around for collecting reports and letters. Not only does it create confusion, it also shows how disorganized the system is.

It requires forming of a committee that takes care of the information required and drafts a standardized format that all the hospitals and their vendors need to follow. For this, they might consider meeting both the vendors and the hospitals and take a better understanding of their needs to eliminate any issues regarding getting information and ensure quality output.

It would be best that the involved parties frame certain points they need to cover and take everyone’s consent on it. This would solve all the problems regarding disorganized credentialing and also help in resolving the issues between hospitals and vendors.

– Second – There is a need for one single credentials storage house:

Till now, there has been no one single place to document these credentials, creating issues between hospitals and the vendors. That one place could act as the storehouse of all the credential documents of all vendors and hospitals. This could make it easier for the hospitals to keep a tab on the information, when required and the vendors could stay assured that their documents are in safe hands.

It also helps doctors and other hospital staff to retain their information, which can be presented to other hospitals in case of job shift. In such cases, it becomes easier for the hospitals to do a check on the new employee’s credentials without repeated the procedure again.

– Third – The cost of credentialing needs to be standardized: With more than ten companies involved in vendor credentialing, each charges differently for different information. Some charge the hospital and some charge the vendors. Some take a single time fees, some take it on a yearly bases or as per renewal or for each hospital that the vendor applies for. The charges also depend on the standard and size of the hospital. For bigger vendor companies, the charge might still seem more but for small vendor companies, the charges are borne by the individual vendors, which is not fair on their pockets.

These 3 points are the top most areas of concern, which need to be answered by the hospitals, vendors and the vendor credentialing companies together. And the only way to do this would be to have an intention to do best.
