Use Self-hypnosis and Visualization to Stop Smoking
There are many different methods one can use to stop smoking. Many have tried the nicotine patch, some have tried medications, and yet others have tried to rely on their own willpower and quit cold turkey. Some people have succeeded using these methods, but many people have failed. When they have failed many times, it is then that they turn to self-hypnosis to help them quit smoking. Using self-hypnosis to change your views about smoking within your subconscious mind has been found to be the most effective treatment to end smoking addictions.
Self-hypnosis consists of several main components, some of which include relaxation, some include scripts, and some include visualization. Relaxation is imperative for self-hypnosis. One of the major things that you will learn when being instructed in self-hypnosis is how to let go and relax and then your mind will be open to suggestion. You will also learn key phrases or suggestions that are geared towards helping to stop you from smoking. You must repeat these to yourself many times . You will also learn how to visualize which is particularly important in the process to quit smoking.
Visualization is one of the greatest benefits to self-hypnosis. By imagining that you are performing an activity, you are more able to easily achieve the real thing. When first practicing visualization in self-hypnosis, many people find it is easier if they create pictures of themselves as if they are watching themselves on television. This is called dissociated visualization. This is an effective technique in helping you stop smoking because you are image how you would be like when you are smoke-free. Once you image yourself in that activity it is as if it is a real event and it will make the desired activity more realistically achieved.
You must become clear about the fact that you are going to quit for the first step in using visualization to help you stop smoking. The anticipated outcome is that you will no longer smoke. You can use your own imagination to think of images and ideas that will appeal to you emotionally. These emotions are the key because the more emotionally charged a hypnotic suggestion, the more likely you will respond to it. You can use words that engage emotions such as “sparkling”, “loving”, “thrilling”, “wonderful”, “generous”, “powerful”, “radiant”, “exciting”, “vibrant”, “delightful”, and “beautiful”. The more vivid the image is, the more effective it will be since visualizations are just suggestions. Imagine the tobacco smoke and how it looks, smells, and tastes very bad. Use associations with the smoke that represent how unpleasant it is. Some common negative things that are used as association to cigarette smoke is a smelly shoe or trash.
Self-hypnosis and visualization to help quit smoking has really worked for many people. Using their imagination to create desired change has been simple, powerful and effective. When you use visualizations you are able to see yourself after the change has occurred and thus it is easier to meet your goal of being a non-smoker.
