Warning Signs of an Unqualified Eden Prairie Chiropractor
Finding a chiropractor in Eden Prairie can seem somewhat overwhelming, especially these days when you never know who to trust. Luckily there are several warning signs you can look for when researching available chiropractors in your area.
While there are many people who cannot say enough good things about the work chiropractors have done to cure back pain, there are also many people who think the work chiropractors do is a sham. A probable reason for this is that there are good, well-qualified chiropractors and there are those who are not qualified that you definitely want to avoid.
The first warning sign to stay away from a certain chiropractor is if they suggest giving you a body fat analysis, a biological terrain assessment, contact reflex analysis, cytotoxitic testing electrodermal testing, hair analysis, allergy testing, saliva analysis, nutrient deficiency test or any other type of test that might seem better suited to be given to you by a doctor or nutritionist. Many unqualified chiropractors will also prescribe certain dietary supplements and homeopathic remedies after having you take the aforementioned tests. None of these methods having anything to do with actual, qualified chiropractic treatment plans.
Many unqualified chiropractors also like to tell their patients that only the nutritional supplements that they prescribe will work. In the same vein, many unqualified chiropractors also often tell new patients that the methods and treatments they use are very innovative and so new that no other chiropractors in the Eden Prairie are using them. This should definitely be a red flag that the chiropractor is using methods not agreed upon as beneficial or safe by the National Board of Chiropractors.
During your initial consultation with a prospective chiropractor, be weary of them if they want to treat parts of your body that aren’t hurting. For example if you have decided to see a chiropractor to help alleviate pain in your lower back, the chiropractor does not have any reason to manipulate your upper spine or neck. There has yet to be any research and proof that supports that any manipulation of the neck can improve pain or discomfort of the lower back.
Another warning sign to look out for is a chiropractor who diagnosis you with having weak muscles and then makes a treatment plan to help the issue. Weak muscles can either be a symptom of another issue you need to have diagnosed by an internist or other physician or that you are just out of shape. In the case of being out of shape a well-qualified chiropractor would refer you to a personal trainer or physical therapist in conjunction with a treatment plan that addresses your specific spine related pain.
One last warning sign you might find is a chiropractor that uses treatments that involve acupuncture, colonic irrigation or biomagnetic therapy. The chiropractor you choose should be one that is highly skilled in chiropractic techniques. If they believe you would benefit from alternative treatments they should refer you to an expert in that form of treatment.
