When buying folders it is better to go for the thin and cheap ones. The expensive folders that come with a lot of pockets and even zippers tend to be quite bulky and they don’t fit into the desks. The other basic school supplies include at least three glue sticks for one year, scissors, ballpoint pens, pencils, colored pencils, water based markers, white glue, scotch tape, stapler, highlighters, notebooks, binder, pocket folder and a folder. You could probably add a few more items to the basic school supplies according to your need but the above mentioned items are almost always required by a student of every class. If you have a printer at home, you should also add printer paper along with ink cartridges to your list of school supplies.

Make sure that the scissors that you purchase have blunt ends if you are purchasing them for young kids and if it is for older age kids then a pointed one would do as well. In the above list of supplies, pencils are also mentioned. It is best if you purchase the classic no. 2 pencils for the sake of avoiding class competition among young kids over who has the fancy pencil. If you are making a list of basic supplies for a kid in kinder garden you can probably omit highlighters. There are a few extra or second in importance items included in supplies for students who are in elementary school. Such supplies include a pack of crayons, drawing paper, construction paper and watercolor paints. You can also include a box which could be used for storing pencils, erasers, sharpeners and crayons.
