I am always on the lookout for fun things to do in Houston. A lot of the really fun stuff takes place during the nightlife, which is perfect for me. After a long week of work, I am more than ready to start in on the weekend and have a good time with my friends. Unfortunately for me, as much as I like to have a good time, my friends and I seem to have a knack for doing stupid things on the weekends also. Here are just a couple of the biggest mistakes we have made at nightclubs along the way.

For guys, of course the biggest mistake you can make is trying to pick up a girl who is already spoken for. To make things worse, if you happen to try this with a girl whose boyfriend happens to be a professional wrestler, this can lead to big problems for you. Take it from me, make sure one of the first things you ask a girl is whether or not they are with someone that night. It can help you to avoid getting put into a full nelson and slammed into the men’s room wall.

Of course, you probably want to avoid the mistake of going out drinking without having anything to eat. It seems like a common sense thing for people to remember these days, but it is easy to overlook. It’s Friday night, you have just left work after a long day and your friends want to meet up right after work.

This is where the trouble begins. Maybe you skipped lunch and worked right through it that day and start the evening by having a liquid dinner of shots and beers. I can tell you from experience that you are headed down a bad path if you go this way. At least it seems like a bad path from what I can remember. We still can’t get the smell out of my friend’s car.

Want another nightclub mistake to avoid? Don’t get mouthy with the bouncers. Sure, you may feel like a tough guy saying things to impress any of the ladies that might be around (and odds are they aren’t impressed anyway), but the bouncer is only going to put up with so much before he tosses you out. It’s pretty much a sure way to end the evening quickly.

My last word of warning for you is don’t try to impress the ladies at the club by offering to buy them drinks all night. Sure, one round is okay, but if you are buying drinks for you, her, her friends and your friends, well, you will turn out like me and end up washing glasses all night long to make up for that declined credit card.

There’s nothing wrong with looking for fun things to do in Houston. Heck, I do it practically every weekend of the year. Hopefully you can learn something from some of the mistakes I have made and have a fun time and still be able to walk away, remember the evening and have a little cash in your pocket at the end of the night.
