Okay, I admit that I am not exactly the best person to talk about when it comes to going to church. Yes, I still go once in a while, but probably not as often as I should go. I do go often that I know who the priest of my parish is and I think he knows who I am, so I guess that\’s something, right? One thing is for certain, for as many Houston nightclub parties that I have been to, the last person I ever expected to run into at one of them was my priest.

It was only a few weeks ago when my friends and I were out and about in the city having a good time as we often do on the weekends. We hopped along from club to club and it was starting to get a little bit later in the evening. We eventually decided to hit one of the quieter clubs we go to a final drink or two before calling it a night.

We sat at the bar and ordered some beers. The place was pretty quiet, although they did have some karaoke going on in the back of the bar. We heard some people laughing and having a good time so we went to go and check it out.

That\’s when I saw him. There up on the stage, singing Bon Jovi\’s \”Livin\’ On a Prayer,\” was my parish priest. He was having a grand old time singing away. I have to admit, he was pretty good too, much better than I ever thought he would be. We stayed until he finished his song and he received a big round of applause from the sparse crowd.

I worked my way over to the table where he was sitting to congratulate him on a good performance. I was taken aback a bit because he actually recognized me and called me by name. He was just as surprised to see me as I was to see him.

He explained that he comes out with one or two people from the parish every weekend to go and relax and do something fun. I have to admit I had a new found respect for the guy after seeing him like that. I even got up sang \”Sweet Caroline\” with him when he went on stage the next time. My friends were shocked because I never sing karaoke and here I was singing it with a priest.

It turned out to be one of the best Houston nightclub parties of the year for me. We parted ways when it was well after two in the morning. The priest made sure to ask me if I was going to make it in to mass in the morning after such a late night. He told me that if he could do it, than I really had no excuse. I made sure I was sitting in the front row the next morning and he gave me a wink when he saw me.
