The goal of a man is to be successful. This is a common goal. We aspire from childhood to become greater than our parents or at least to be like them. These are expressed as dreams and dreams can fade or they can become strong and your dream can inspire others. There are three things that leaders do to have success.

1. The dream encompasses more than self.

If we don\’t believe in ourselves then who else will? If we only believe in what we can see, then the future is bleak for most of us. Without guidance, can we really be sure that we\’re being lead in the right direction. Some people are afraid to dream. It\’s common especially with those who have had there dreams crushed in past experiences. Some may be more inclined to become a part of someone elses vision, rather than there own. Is your dream large enough for those who are following you to feel like it encompasses theirs as well? If your dream is just to earn 1,000,000 dollars for Johnny, how can Johnny convince others to help him with that goal? People have to be able to see beyond what your personal intentions are and tap into something bigger. So your dream must be larger than yourself. This is why people who have a vision of helping others may have a following or providing some type of service to the world. Servitude attracts people. When you can help others, to help themselves, people are sure to want to follow you.

2. Become the expert.

Successful people are just people who have gotten good at doing a few things that others just don\’t want to do. So some people aren\’t going to want to attend the webinars, read the books, and do the long training sessions, and it\’s there loss. Be the person that goes the extra mile and you will be a mile above your peers. When you lead you should know more than them. Knowledge brings respect. There is no true leadership without respect.

3. Believe in things before they actually happen

If you can\’t see a brighter future, others who are looking to you can\’t either. The vision, the goal, the dream, is the leaders responsibility to come up with and then a plan of action can be developed by others. Visualizing success is a technique that many athletes use. By actually seeing success in your mind\’s eye and imagining in vivid detail how it will feel when greatly enhance your chances of reaching success. Olympic gold medalist Michael Phelps uses this technique.

4. Learn from those who are great at it

Studying and learning from great leaders will improve your leadership skills. Not everything will apply because we all have different personality styles. You may find while studying great leaders that some are similar to your own personality. Always keep an open mind to change. Don\’t become stubborn and don\’t forget that you must learn to follow before you can truly lead. We\’re not all destined to be leaders but if it is in your path to be one, why not become a great one.
