Why Do You Need A VPS For Metatrader
One question that gets asked quite a lot is why do I need a VPS for Metatrader, can\’t I just use my home PC. When you first start and are doing your own trading you can get away with using your PC at home, but as soon as you start looking at running EA\’s and Robots that need to be on 24/7 you really need to start thinking about getting a VPS for your Metatrader installation, and Forex trading.
When you first start out you probably install metatrader onto your PC and connect to your brokers servers, but if you then want to run an EA/Robot on your home PC, you will encounter the following issues.
PC Errors: You probably use you PC for lots of other task, what happens if you start having problems with your PC, the Hard Drive fails, or you have some other technical problem.
Power Failures: What happens if the power fails? You could buy a UPS, but these will only last a short time, and are really just to ensure the PC shuts down safely
Internet Connection Failures: Can you rely on your Internet Connection 24/7 and its speed. I know I can\’t, sometimes my router fails or the connection grinds to a halt. For all you know your Internet Connection may be dropping out on a regular basis during the night, and this will not come to light until you are trying to use it 24/7.
If any off these situations happen and your Robot has an open trade, you could be in the situation of having an open trade that should be managed by your EA going against you and your account taking a beating.
So what can you do?
This is where running you copy of Metatrader on a VPS could help, but how does this help with the issues you might have experienced just using your home PC for MT4
Your VPS will be housed in a special building called a Datacentre that will house many companies’ critical servers, so to ensure these are always available the Datacentre will have the following in place to stop problems
PC Errors: You don\’t have to worry about PC or Hardware Errors, your VPS provider does. Your VPS will be running on a server that has all hardware doubled up, so if one component fails the other one will take over and the failed component can be replaced. You should also just be running your
Metatrader and EA on your VPS.
Power Failures: Data Centres always have backup power generators, so you don\’t have worry about power cuts, stopping your EA.
Internet Connection Failures: The Datacentre will have multiple connections to the Internet, which means if one connection goes down another one will be available. Plus your server will be connected to the internet and therefore your Brokers servers, faster, than you may get at home, and will definitely more reliable.
Using a VPS also means you can connect to it anywhere you have an Internet Connection using what is called a Remote Desktops Connection. This allows you to connect to your VPS using your home pc, a laptop, iPAD and even your Smartphone. Your laptop or PC will already have the software installed on it you need, while for your iPAD or Smartphone etc you\’ll need a Remote Desktop App.
I hope this article has explained why you should be looking at getting a VPS for your Forex trading.
