TRANSFERING A FRIDGE

Modern way of living turns to be all the more demanding. Thereby, as people get more and more busy, even the simplest task seems to be a brainteaser. Having the right advice may improve extremely helpful as it means that we will need to devote less time and save ourselves unnecessary effort.

This is what I did a few weeks ago, when I renovated my kitchen. Having a big family I needed a more spacious kitchen so I decided to turn the huge storeroom of the first floor into a new kitchen. Therefore, the transfer of my refrigerator downstairs turned to be the most difficult part of the whole task. However, after I followed some simple steps I managed to move my fridge safely. Here are some of the tips that will help you move your fridge without having problems.

MOVING TIPS FOR THE TRANSFER OF A FRIDGE

Moving a fridge may seem quite simple but if you don’t do it right you may cause permanent damage. Refrigerators are not only heavy but they also have a fragile cooling mechanism that needs extra care. Therefore, the following tips will help you make the transfer of your fridge easier and safer.

First of all you have to clear out all the contents. The fridge is already heavy and having it filled with items makes it even heavier. Moreover, you don’t want the contents to be damaged, so you should better pack them up, including the freezer items and even the shelves. You will also have to defrost the appliance before you transfer it, this is very important for the fragile cooling mechanism of the appliance. The defrost takes 6-8 hours, depending on the state of the appliance. You should start preparing the transfer of your fridge the day before the move, unplug the refrigerator and leave the door open to defrost. In addition, on the day of the move use some tape in order to secure the doors and wrap the cord. Provided that the doors open during the transfer, the appliance will be scratched. You should also secure the core so it doesn’t get caught and turn the power source off.

Refrigerators are too heavy to carry by hand, for this task you should use special equipment. A dolly/trolley would be perfect, especially if you have to negotiate stairs. Furthermore, using ropes or even better, moving straps, the fridge will be transferred more easily, as they help keep the moving item in position. Finally, after you place the fridge on the dolly, have one person at the front and another person at the back and move around slowly working together. If you move the fridge downstairs move the dolly down slowly one step after another. Always remember to let the refrigerator sit for about 3-4 hours before you plug it in, in order to let its fluids flow back and make the cooling mechanism function again.

However, the task may be too difficult if you don’t have the helping hands or the equipment required. In this case a professional will be the best possible option. There are several moving companies that are able to help you transfer fragile appliances either to a new place or to another room in your house. They will follow these steps but they have an extra advantage as they can guarantee that nothing will go wrong.
