Earning Money From Your Writing, Every Day, Every Week, Every Month
Working at home as a writer is a great way to earn money. But your income from your writing needs to be consistent. You need to be making money every day, every week and every month. And your writing income needs to keep increasing.
I’ve been working as a writer for years now in one form or another. I’ve done freelance writing, book writing, ebook publishing, online writing and affiliate marketing, just to name a few. And all the time my writing income has increased.
But the money I make from my writing doesn’t appear automatically, and neither do the increases in income. There is only one way to make more money from your writing. And that is, to do more writing.
The one thing that I’ve noticed over the years about my writing income is that the more I write the more money I make. And if you do the math it’s quite simple to understand.
Making money from writing doesn’t come with an hourly wage. It can do if you’re writing for a private client and charging by the hour for the work you do. But that doesn’t happen very often, if at all. Clients prefer a quote for a complete writing project and not an hour by hour charge.
Writing income is residual which means that you make money from your writing after you’ve done the work, and not while you’re doing it.
For instance, if you write a marketing article (such as this one), you won’t earn money from it straight away, but you will earn money from people who read it, click through to your website and buy one of your books. And just one article can go on earning you money for years to come.
It’s the same with writing and publishing books and ebooks, because they can also go on earning you money for years to come. And another way to make more money from writing books is to write more. The more books you’re selling, the more money you’ll make.
It’s easy to see that if you’ve written and published 50 ebooks, you’re far likely to make more money than a person who has written and published only one.
But writing income isn’t just numbers. Your writing has to be good. You have to be writing about something worth reading and writing it well enough to get your story or your point across.
Some writers say that shipping is more important than writing. That means what you write isn’t as important as shipping (publishing) it. Once you publishing your work, if you’re not happy with it, or your readers aren’t happy with it, you can rewrite it and ship it again, but if you don’t ship it in the first place, you won’t make money.
That’s not an open license to publish bad work. It just means you need to keep writing and publishing on a consistent basis. Some writers suggest making it a goal to ship daily whether it’s an ebook, a print book, a marketing article, a blog post, a press release or some social media interaction. No matter what it is that you write, make sure you write something every day and ship it.
I’ve done a few tests with this and I’ve found that on weeks were I am publishing something every day (or more than once a day) my writing income increases whether it’s money from freelance writing, my website advertisements, sales of my own books and ebooks, sales from affiliates selling my ebooks or income from affiliate products that I sell for commission. In some way (or usually more than one way) my income increases.
And it all comes from writing and shipping daily.
So if you’re not making enough money from your writing, start writing and shipping more often and do it consistently, and you should start making money from your writing every day.
