Tips For Hiring Long Distance Movers
Has the time come to hire long distance movers? If so, then you may want a few tips that can make the whole process of hiring and working with a long distance moving company as easy as possible. Thankfully, should you hire a professional moving company that has a lot of experience and skill in performing long distance moves, then you shouldn’t expect to have any problems. Still, it always helps to know ahead of time what to expect when you are hiring a moving company, and what you can do to make the experience truly successful.
One of the best things you can do before even getting your first moving quote is to downsize. Not only will it make moving easier and quicker if you pare down the amount of belongings you are moving, but it will also make the move cheaper in the end because you will have fewer items that will need packing, loading, and transporting. But, of course, then comes the million-dollar question, “how do I get rid of all that stuff?” The easy answer to that difficult and (often) emotionally charged issue is that you need to determine how much stuff you will really need to take along to your new home. If you are scaling down from a three-bedroom empty nest rancher on a quarter acre lot to a deluxe one-bedroom condo in the sky, you will not want to be saddled with tons of furniture that you will no longer need. So, if you don’t foresee having to use all the furnishings you have now, or you haven’t used certain items in over one year, then donate them to a local charity. You could even use the donations as tax deductions*.
Once you have eliminated the items you no longer need in your home, then you can begin preparing your current home for the movers to arrive. Usually, it is best to pack all personal items, such as insurance documents, clothing you will need during the move, blankets and bedding, and other items that you will want to have handy during the duration of the moving process. Your moving company should have environmentally friendly, reusable boxes that you can use to pack your belongings for the move.
If you have children or pets, you will also want to consider finding a trustworthy sitter who will take care of your little loved ones during the move. Consider having the sitter take your children or pets away from your home on moving day so they are nowhere near the hustle and bustle of the movers packing your belongings up and putting them on the moving truck.
While the upcoming move may feel like a daunting and ominous task, if you follow these tips and plan out your move as early and as thoroughly as possible, there is no reason to expect anything less than a successful experience.
