Celebrity Anxiety Disorders Unveiled
I would always be searching for that light at the end of the tunnel when it came to my anxiety disorder, but if you\’re in the same situation as I used to be, look no further then these famous names. The people you are about to read about didn\’t accept that anxiety would be a part of their lives forever, they made a decision to change the learned pattern of behavior that was keeping them from living a successful life around, and now it\’s time to follow in their footsteps.
Abraham Lincoln – At the age of 52 Lincoln became the 16th president of The United States and was known to be extremely shy, secretive, self doubting, insecure, depressed, and was preoccupied with the idea of a premature death. He had mentioned once that all the criticism he received during the civil war was too much to take, and he was not sure if he would survive them, he went on to draw much strength from his own personal history, and led the entire nation.
Barbara Streisand – Bet this one was a surprise. One of the most successful performers in the entertainment industry and my personal favorite character in Meet The Fockers (classic), Barbara Streisand suffered from social anxiety for 27 years just before her career peaked. She was stuck behind a recording studio for years fearful of public performances, but she eventually learned to overcome her social anxiety and took baby steps forward by singing in smaller shows at first, followed by a burst of momentum and confidence that led her to perform in front of audiences worldwide in no time.
David Beckham – OK ladies take it easy… The worldwide soccer star is a victim of OCD and has admitted that he absolutely can\’t stand a lack of order and symmetry. He admits it\’s extremely tiring spending so much time arranging things perfectly from what\’s in his closet, to the bathroom cabinet, to the fridge. In fact wifey Victoria admits he\’ll throw a can that has a full drink in it out if there are three cans lined up next to each other in one of the three fridges they share, it must always be an even number she says of Davey.
Oprah Winfrey – Oprah has been able to turn her anxiety related issues into a driving force that has shaped her career into what it is today. At the age of 14 Oprah gave birth to a son that passed away, then was sexually abused, and ran away from home. She learned to overcome years of anxiety related problems and has a great message that everyone suffering from anxiety disorders should take to heart, and that message is \”turn your wounds into wisdom,\” well played Oprah.
Sigmund Freud – The father of psychoanalysis with his revolutionary theories and ideas, Freud suffered through nervous illness and most of his friends referred to him as a hypochondriac for most of his life. In the mid 1800\’s during a visit to the doctors, Freud was mentioned in a comment saying \”this really great man thinks more about his bowels and nerves than about the laureate wreath he was born to inherit,\” (I am guessing laureate wreath is some kind of rare successful achievement?). Divorced, broke and deeper in anxiety than ever, friends of his were losing hope and feared his life would be this grim forever, personally I don\’t care..I still loved him in Bill and Teds Excellent Adventure!
Jessica Alba – OK I\’ll admit I threw Jessica Alba into the list because of my never-ending crush on her, but let\’s get down to the connection she had with anxiety before I get too distracted and start looking up images of her on Google again. Eating disorders were a part of the actresses life and she dropped to a measly 100 pounds during her early high school days. She admits making friends at school was a challenge, and she hated the idea of going to school because she had no one to talk to. Jessica surprisingly also suffered from extreme OCD due to her need to be in control of everything, as well as panic attacks. So the question we must ask ourselves after reading the list of these successful people who have gone through the same experiences as you and me is…
What can I take away from this?
#1) Persistence Will Spread To All Aspects Of Your Life – If you are constantly becoming knowledgable about anxiety, building confidence from knowing your fears are not going to come true, and looking at setbacks as part of the road to recovery than you are well on your way to eliminating your tired nerves in time, If you stay the course and don\’t check the calendar to see how much time is passing by of course. Everyone recovers at their own speed and this persistent attitude will spread like a wildfire and soon your life will be joyous again, trust me.
#2) You Will Become A Leader – All the celebs that you have just read about have all become leaders in their respective fields. Living with an anxiety disorder shapes your psychology and makes you tough as nails once it is overcome and doesn\’t run your day to day life. Get ready to inspire others through your own personal story as they have.
#3) Surround Yourself With Success Stories – A funny thing happened while I was playing professional tennis tournament after tennis tournament in the last few years, I began to become who I surrounded myself with. As I continued to stay with the pack that were much better tennis players then me, my standards grew and my psychology changed, I actually began to see myself competing and even overtaking these players who were once so much better than I was. When it comes to anxiety I strongly have to suggest reading, interacting and applying the knowledge gained from people who are where you want to be, vitally important.
So now it\’s time to take this valuable knowledge and run with it, these celebs believed that their anxiety disorder wasn\’t something they would have to cope with forever… they believed it was the beginning, the beginning of a challenge that they MUST overcome in order to stay on their path to success, so you have to ask yourself something: Is there a goal or dream that you once had that has since been slipping through your own fingertips? If so it\’s time to get back on track today.
