Summer is here and for those going to Las Vegas for vacation, nothing beats taking a helicopter or an airplane tour to Grand Canyon National Park.

Let\’s get our bearings first. Las Vegas is just 120 miles from the West Rim of the Canyon. Putting that into perspective, it takes 45 minutes and 30 minutes to get there by helicopter and airplane, respectively.

That\’s quite quick and means you can enjoy the best of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World in one day and be back in Las Vegas for a night on the town. To my mind, that\’s quite an achievement.

I\’d like to note at this point that helicopters only fly to the West Rim; the South Rim is out of their range. Further, the West Rim is the only place where you can fly to the bottom and land as such flights are banned at the South rim.

Deluxe Helicopters

I personally like the deluxe version of these helicopter tours. This is because they come with limousine hotel pick up and drop off and a flight over the internationally famous Las Vegas Strip (from the Stratosphere Tower to the Luxor\’s pyramid – it truly is quite a sight!).

There\’s also the fact that deluxe flights use the EcoStar 130, the most superior aircraft flying the Canyon today. What do I mean by this? Well, for starters, this heli\’s cabin is 25 percent bigger than others. It also features stadium-style seats and a 180-degree wraparound windshield. These features combine to deliver an experience second to none.

As for Vegas helicopter landing tours, I prefer the one that flies to the bottom for a Champagne picnic. This particular tour can be extended with a boat ride down the famous Colorado River as well as tickets to the incredible Grand Canyon Skywalk. Just remember to book landing tours in advance as they have a tendency to sell out.

Airplanes

Las Vegas airplane tours fly the same route to the Canyon as helicopters. There are also combination tours that include helicopter rides to the bottom with a boat ride. The biggest difference between airplane and heli are these:

1. Price. Airplane tours are cheaper.

2. Number of passengers. Airplanes hold up to 19 people while helicopters are limited to six.

3. Availability. Airplane tours are less inclined to selling out because they can accommodate more passengers.

And if you are searching for an air tour to the South Rim from Vegas, then you definitely want to try the direct flight. In my opinion, this is the only way to go because the flight takes just 60 minutes versus 5.5 hours on the ground. It also comes with a 2.5-hour bus tour. If you really want to take it up a notch, add a helicopter tour to the mix.

Conclusion

Las Vegas is a great place from which to take a helicopter or an airplane tour to the Grand Canyon. Remember, helicopter tours only go to the West Rim. If you want the South, you have to take the South Rim direct flight. Choose from air-only or landing. For me, landing is the best option because you\’ll get to see and do more. And when it comes to helicopters, always go deluxe because it\’s a better value.
