High Roller Wheel in Las Vegas
The new High Roller observation wheel located at the heart of the Las Vegas Strip is the newest big attraction in the capital of entertainment.
The Las Vegas Strip is mesmerizing from the ground but those seeking to soak in The Strip and more from above the ground have the High Roller, the focus of attraction at the new Linq outdoor pedestrian mall. The new High Roller Ferris wheel is located at the heart of The Strip between the Flamingo and Quad hotel across from Caesar’s Palace has nothing to do with gambling. It has now overtaken the London Eye in England as the world’s tallest observation wheel.
The High Roller opened to the public on March the 31st, 2014 for visitors to enjoy a different view of Las Vegas and the world famous Strip from a pod. For everyone who understands that the city of Las Vegas which now counts more than 2 million citizens believes in doing things big, drinks included, it’s no surprise that the High Roller wheel is enormous, standing at 550 feet, which makes it 100 feet taller than the London Eye, and outdoes the Singapore Flyer by 9 feet. The only threat to its No. 1 position comes from the New York Wheel on Staten Island, which is expected to start spinning in the year 2016 and take visitors 630 feet above the ground. So it is looking like that the biggest observation wheel in the world will be in Las Vegas for only 2 years.
A spokesperson termed the observation wheel a very unique experience and said, “This is one experience that is a must visit”. Travel + Leisure magazine has added it to its list of must-see new attractions for 2014 and we couldn’t agree more. The 30 minute ride offers the most stunning views of the Hotels and Casinos of the Strip and the surrounding mountains. Visitors could enjoy the sunset and also ride the wheel at night and see the millions of bright city lights.
Representatives of Caesars Entertainment Corp., the owner of several hotels on The Strip and developers and The Linq outdoor pedestrian mall expect the Ferris wheel to attract millions of tourists every year. Over 40 million visitors are reported to have come to Las Vegas in 2013, a figure which is likely to increase this year. The High Roller operates during the day and night with tickets still priced at $24.95 and $34.95 per head respectively. Groups can purchase tickets at a discount. This is great opportunity to soak in the best of Vegas and take multiple photos. The Ferris wheel is easily noticeable from the Interstate 15 with its spaceship designed passenger cabins.
The High Roller comprises 28 spherical cabins enclosed with glass, each capable of holding as many as 40 people. The entire wheel can hold 1,120 people at a time. Each cabin weights 44,000 pounds and features amazing video shows and entertaining music. The High Roller takes 30 minutes to complete one rotation.
The High Roller is adorned with over 2,000 LED lights of different hues and colours, such as green, white, purple, pink, and turquoise, giving viewers a rare visual treat. The lights are turned on in the evening and turned off only in the early morning.
Visitors that wish to drink on the ride can purchase drinks from the bar before they board the High Roller. Passengers disembarking after the ride can visit the Sky Shop, a souvenir store with loads of items at not-so high roller prices.
