Different Types of Cleaners For Your Rugs
Everyone knows that any rugs you have will eventually need to be cleaned, especially if they are in a high traffic area. One of the best and easiest ways to keep your rugs clean is to immediately clean up anything that is spilled on it and to make sure that each day you vacuum the rugs. Even though you do both of these things in time your rugs will need to be deep cleaned and when you deep clean your rugs you will need to use some type of rug cleaner. There are many different types of rug cleaners such as foam cleaners, powder cleaners, shampooing, and more.
Shampooing
This is the type that most people choose when they want to deep clean their rugs but unfortunately it is also the least effective for deep cleaning your rug. When shampooing your rug you will use a machine that has a container attached to which soapy water is added. You want to make sure that you do a small area at a time because if you soak the whole rug it could cause damage to it and will take it a longer time to dry. To get the soap out you need to let the rug dry completely and then vacuum it out. Make sure that you are using a cleaner that is made especially for rugs because this type of cleaner is easier to vacuum out of the rug than other shampoo. Many of these specialty shampoos contain soil retardants that help to keep the rugs cleaner for a longer period of time because the soil retardants help to repel dust.
Powders
This powder is a type of solvent that must be sprinkled on the rug and left there for approximately fifteen to twenty minutes before you can vacuum it out. This powder is like a magnet and attracts the humidity and dust out of your rug. One good thing about using powders is that they require no drying time. This makes the go-to cleaner for emergency cleanups and to help your rugs have a good clean smell because many have perfumes that give them different scents like honeysuckle, peach, vanilla, etc.
Foam
There are two different types of foam that you can use for rug cleaning. One is meant to be used in professional machines and brushed deep into the rugs. This is the type to use that is most effective in picking up crumbs, dust, and any type of dirt that can be embedded in your rug. The other type that is for home use can be mixed with water that is room temperature and applied manually to your rug with a scrub brush. Once it dries and turns into a powder it can be vacuumed up.
There is also a spot rug cleaner that you can use to clean small stains to keep them from setting in and ruining your rug. Wipe up the spill first and then just spray it on the stain and pat it dry after leaving it to soak into the stain for a few minutes.
