Tip #4 concerns air tours. In this case, I recommend booking a landing tour. These primarily depart from Las Vegas and they are a much better value than the air-only trips. In particular is the Champagne helicopter ride that takes you to the bottom for a picnic.

Speaking of helicopters and Las Vegas, I\’m a huge fan of deluxe tours. These basically take off from the Las Vegas Strip, which is more convenient than Boulder City, which is the starting point for the cheapest tours. Deluxe tours also come with limousine hotel pick up and drop off as well as an extended tour over the world-famous Strip.

Window Seats

Tip #5 is another air tour tip and it concerns window seats. Few people know this but you can request window seats on airplane tours for an extra $10 per person. Front seats in helicopters can also be requested but they cost $50 per person. There\’s no guarantee you\’ll get your request but it\’s worth a shot and gives you an edge over passengers who failed to ask.

Here\’s a bonus tip I think you\’ll like. Try to take your tour in the morning. This is especially true during summer when it\’s really hot (the West Rim is regularly over 100 degrees from May through September!). Moreover, and this regards air tours, morning flights tend to have better visibility and the air is smoother.

And by all means dress comfortably. I recommend taking a look at the 10-day weather forecast. That will give you an idea about how to prepare. This is especially important for folks taking a tour that lets them explore the National Park for any period of time. Inside a helicopter, airplane or bus is not a problem because each is climate-controlled.
