Las Vegas

Vegas airplane tours run the gamut, ranging from all-air to landing tours. Both follow the same flight path, going over Lake Mead, Hoover Dam, the Colorado River and the Canyon. Air-only will turn back while landing trips will stop on top of the rim.

What\’s really cool about this South Rim flight is that you can add a helicopter ride or a Jeep tour. The heli trip is a 30-minute flight that goes from South Rim to the North Rim and back. The one with the Jeep is basically a two-hour excursion inside the Park, either during normal hours or during sunset.

South Rim

The South Rim airplane tour departs from Grand Canyon National Park in Tusayan, AZ. This flight follows the same flight path as the 50-minute helicopter tour except it\’s much cheaper. In less than an hour, you\’ll see the South Rim, North Rim and everything up to the eastern boundary.

Generally, airplane tours are cheaper than helicopter tours. That\’s because airplanes can hold up to 19 passengers while helicopters can only carry six people. And because of the extra capacity, airplanes are perfect for large groups, families and more.

These airplanes are large and feature oversized cabins with plush, comfortable lounge-style seats. Windows are oversized and the wings themselves are affixed to the top of the plane\’s body so you can see everything that\’s to the side and below.

It\’s getting cold up here at the Canyon so dress for warmth. If you are taking a Vegas air tour to the West Rim, dress in layers and bring a medium-weight jacket. Same goes if you do the South Rim, but don\’t be surprised if you find snow as this part of the Park sits at an elevation of 7,000 feet.
