Spring is here and it\’s a perfect time to take a Grand Canyon airplane tour from Las Vegas and South Rim, AZ. To make sure your flight is absolutely superior, consider these 5 tips. They are all based from personal experience and they\’ve massively improved my Canyon adventure.

My first tip is to buy your airplane tour in advance. This is especially true if you are doing it from Las Vegas where flights sell out all the time. I typically recommend booking your air tour right after you get your hotel figured out. If you can\’t do that then try to book 2 weeks ahead of time.

By all means try NOT to reserve your tour within 24 hours of flight time or the same day you want to do the tour. Two things will most likely happen: 1) the price will go up a lot; and 2) the flight will probably be full. So if you are serious about taking an air tour, try to book it as far out as possible.

My second tip is to book your tour online. It\’s super safe, secure and convenient. But most importantly, purchasing your tour over the Internet is how you get the lowest price. I\’ve see deals as good as up to 35% percent off. These types of deals don\’t exist off the Internet. So take advantage of the Web and buy your tour from the website.

Landing Tours

My third tip is to take a tour that lands. These tours are always the better value and deliver a much better Grand Canyon experience. My favorite is from Vegas and it goes to the Canyon, lands, and then lets you take a helicopter ride to the bottom and a boat cruise down the Colorado River. My other favorite is the one that includes tickets to the Grand Canyon Skywalk.

My #4 tip is to request a window seat. As it is, seats are based on first come, first served. Not the greatest scenario if you\’re a traveler who likes a window. This can be fixed by requesting a window seat during online checkout. The seat upgrade will cost you $10 per person and is well worth it. I recommend getting a window on the left side of the aircraft to the canyon and on the right side on the return.

My #5 tip is take the Las Vegas direct flight to the South Rim. This is the only way to get to the South Rim by air. The other option is ground, and it takes 5.5 hours to get there by bus and car versus a quick 60 minutes by airplane. I also recommend adding a helicopter ride to this package – it goes from the South Rim to the North Rim and back via the Dragoon Corridor, the widest, deepest section of the National Park.
