Las Vegas

All flights from Las Vegas go over Lake Mead, Hoover Dam, the Colorado River and the Canyon. The cheapest option is the basic flyover. Landing tours generally cost more, but in my opinion they are worth it.

My favorite landing tour is the flight that includes a helicopter ride to the bottom of the Canyon. This is a unique tour because you can only do it from Las Vegas and in this section of the Canyon.

There are a number of travelers who like to upgrade this package to include a boat ride down the Colorado River as well as an all-access pass to the Grand Canyon Skywalk.

Skywalk

The Skywalk, which is also know as the Glass Bridge, is now Vegas\’ most popular outdoors attraction. The 30-million dollar structure lets you walk about 70 feet over the edge until you are standing about 4k feet over the base.

There\’s also a Vegas plane tour that goes direct to the South Rim. It\’s a great flight, especially when you consider it takes just 60 minutes to get to this particular rim in Arizona. By contrast, it takes a bus or car 5.5 hours.

This particular flight includes lunch and hotel transfer as well as a 2.5-hour tour inside the National Park. Moreover, it can be upgraded to include a rim-to-rim helicopter ride (it\’s a 30-minute trip that includes the Dragoon Corridor, the widest, deepest section of the Canyon).

South Rim

There\’s only one plane ride at the South Rim and it\’s awesome. It\’s a 50-minute flight that encompasses the South Rim, North Rim and the East Rim. By the time you\’re done, you\’ll have seen up to 75 percent of the National Park, which is remarkable considering that amounts to 1.2-million acres of wilderness.

The airplanes used on these tours seat up to 19 passengers and are specifically designed for sightseeing. Each aircraft, which is manned by two pilots, includes an oversized cabin with extra large viewing windows. For foreign guests, a tour narration translated in up to 10 languages is available upon request.

Please keep in mind that spring temperatures can sometimes be cool so come prepared. I recommend a lightweight jacket, a hat, long pants and closed-toe shoes like running shoes or boots, especially if you are taking a tour wherein you exit the aircraft and explore the surrounding area. Finally, always bring a bottle of water and stay hydrated.
