Enjoy Grand Canyon Rafting With Family and Friends
The Grand Canyon is a popular, well-known visitor site in the western part of the United States, and serves over a million visitors each year. Many of those visitors take part in the Grand Canyon rafting tours. Since these tours are over smooth water, children as young as four are welcome aboard.
Guests take a two and a half hour bus trip from their hotel room or the local airport to Page, Arizona, where they transfer over to large nineteen passenger rafts. This begins the 15.3 mile rafting trip that ends up at historic Lee\’s Ferry, where a bus is waiting to take passengers back to their starting point. Swimming, lunch on the beach and an optional hike for those who enjoy exploring are also included in the tour.
Early morning and late evening views from the rim are some of the most breath-taking that visitors will experience. The ever-changing shadows on the walls leave behind incredible sites. Wildlife that is common to the area are most likely to be seen at these times, too. A wide variety of birds, with the most famous being the California Condor, can be seen throughout the area. Mule deer, coyotes and elk are the most common larger wildlife that can be seen on the Rim
Most visitors arrive at the park by car. Those who come from longer distances often fly into either the Phoenix or the Las Vegas airports and then rent a car and drive to the park. Those looking for something extra can take a train ride from the city of Williams, Arizona, to the Grand Canyon Village. The ride takes two and a half hours each way.
The South Rim is the most visited area of the park. The Grand Canyon Village is the most crowded area as home to the start of Bright Angel Trail, numerous historic buildings and some of the best views. The Watch Tower and Hermits Rest are the two preferred visitor sites on the South Rim.
Hiking is one of the favorite activities within the park. Trails range from short fifteen minute treks to trails that take weeks to finish. Some of the trails are quite rigorous, while others are nature hikes along the canyon rim that offer spectacular views without extra exertion.
Numerous guided tours are available for those less adventurous who prefer not to head out on their own. Tours include hiking, kayaking, jeep rides and helicopter rides. Visitors can choose between private and group outings.
The Grand Canyon National Park offers a myriad of activities to its guests. During the summer, Junior Ranger programs are available for children. Summertime ranger programs like movies, rim walks and interpretive walks are open to all ages. Some fantastic meteor showers can be seen from the South Rim each year during the month of June. Two Indian tribes inhabit parts of the park, and handmade Indian items are available for sale. For an additional price, both Indian reservations are open to those visiting in the park.
