Some Intelligence Colleges Do Offer Intelligence Management Degrees?

Recently I was asked by a friend interested in attending an intelligence college whether there are any good schools which also offer an intelligence management degree. This individual wants to go to a good intelligence college and receive an intelligence management degree. Is this just a pipe dream or could this really be something which can be achieved? Of course, the natural reaction is to believe that an intelligence management degree, like many other things in the intelligence community, is going to be a sole source type commodity owned by the few and distributed to even fewer; however, in just the last few years we have actually seen the rise of legitimate full-time, higher level learning institutions which offer degrees in intelligence.

My previous statement will probably seem a little counterintuitive to many readers. Intelligence tradecraft contains closely guarded information and operational standards which are not widely known or distributed. That was the way the world was, but it does not accurately reflect the way the world currently exists. Today, more information is available to anyone than at any time in history. Any person with an internet connection (i.e., everyone) can find more in an hour of browsing online than could have been obtained through years of detailed research forty years ago.

The tightly guarded secrets of the past are now accessible to every Tom, Dick and Harry sitting on his couch at home. Military Field Manuals, international studies and other forms of information which provide a good intelligence analyst with many of his working tools are now open to the public. Now, that is not to say that we still don’t have a few tricks up our sleeves, but today many pieces of information which use to be inaccessible to the general public are part of open source intelligence. In a way, an intelligence college actually helps with the problems which could arise from such information becoming open source. Intelligence colleges funnel individuals with an aptitude and interest in intelligence into a small group of individuals who can be easily monitored and recruited for inclusion into the intelligence community (one way or another).

So, long story short, there are credible intelligence colleges which offer an intelligence management degree. Of course, they are few and far between, but that is to be expected as the subject matter is something which requires an experienced expert, and they are in short supply. And regardless of your personal opinion of them, they are here to stay. That being said, if you are interested in attending one of these institutions, be very aware that for every legitimate institution there are several more scam artists looking to take money away from the gullible through the guise of imparting knowledge of the intelligence community. Just make sure that you thoroughly vet any potential schools before you sign over a check. Like I said before, experts in intelligence are few and far between, when verifying the validity of your prospective school, I’d look to the faculty first and foremost.
