Several Danville Boot Camps Say That Diet and Exercise Are the Keys to a Healthy Life

Getting older doesn’t necessarily mean you have to fall victim to all the signs of aging. Several Danville boot camps say that if you choose the right foods and a good exercise program, you might find those golden years really are golden. Of course, genetics helps too, but it isn’t everything. The body is an amazing machine that only gets stronger the more you use it. Oxidative stress is one cause of damage to the body at the cellular level. When metal oxidizes, you have rust. It’s oxidative stress, when it occurs in the body. Exercise is one method to help prevent this problem. In other words, exercise prevents you from “rusting out.”

According to many Danville boot camps, antioxidants protect your body from free radicals that cause oxidative stress at a cellular level. Free radicals are nothing more than atoms with an odd number of electrons. This makes them very reactive, which means they readily combine with other atoms or secure electrons to give them an even number in the outer shell. That doesn’t sound dangerous, but it is. When they secure the electron, or combine with another atom, they create a new molecular structure and other free radicals. When this occurs in a cell, it may damage the cell in several ways.

If the change occurs in the cellular membrane, the membrane that was once semi-permeable may now become hard and impenetrable. This means no food can go in or waste can escape. Eventually, the cell dies. However, a number of things can occur before that happens, it can damage the DNA or the mitochondria in the process. The DNA is the blueprint for new cells and the mitochondria is the furnace that creates cellular energy. The more cellular damage that occurs, the more rapidly cells die or mutate and you develop disease or see the signs of aging.

Antioxidants, however, give up their electron to prevent damage from free radicals. Your body makes antioxidants or you can consume them in your diet. Vitamin C, for example is an antioxidant. The flavonoids that give color to certain fruits and vegetables are also antioxidants.

Your body produces both free radicals and antioxidants. Exercise and respiration both increase the free radicals in your body, but don’t stop doing either one! Of course, respiration is mandatory for life. Exercise and the free radicals produced by exercise are a little different. The more you exercise, the more your body also produces antioxidants. However, once you cease exercising the increase in free radical production ceases but the increase in antioxidants doesn’t stop. They continue to provide your body with more protection.

You’ll find that exercise combined with a high quality diet containing at least eight servings a day of fresh fruits and vegetables can help prevent many of the problems caused by aging and even help improve chronic illnesses or other problems you may face, regardless of age. There are many Danville boot camps who agree with this.

Both a healthy diet and exercise provide more than just protection from free radicals. A healthy diet provides essential building blocks for the body, necessary to maintain all functions. Exercise improves the lungs, cardio-vascular system and lowering the risk of many other chronic conditions such as osteoporosis, cancer and diabetes.

No matter what your age, it’s never too late to start eating healthy and increase your daily exercise routine by joining any of the many Danville boot camps. Start today by substituting fresh fruit for high calorie snacks such as potato chips or walking up the stairs rather than taking the elevator. Walk, bike or jog at least three times a week and add strength and flexibility training to your program, increasing it as you become stronger. However, always consult your health care specialist before you begin any dietary change or exercise program.
