Interesting Facts on Bikini and Brazilian Waxing

You can have better confidence wearing that sexy bikini when you know that there are no unruly hairs peeking out. That is why for those who want to pull off that sleek swimwear or simply just to feel sexy down there, a lot of women are asking for a “Brazilian”.

No, they are not asking for some hunky Brazilian, but rather it is a bikini waxing technique that can best give your bikini line a clean and attractive look. But how is it any different from the usual approach? What makes it so popular? Does it hurt as much as your usual bikini wax treatments? Find out more by learning the list of interesting facts!

Bikini wax was first introduced in 1987 by Brazilian sisters, when they opened a salon in New York. It gained popularity when Carrie Bradshaw had it done in an episode of Sex and the City. From then on, women wanted to get it done and today almost each salon has it in their list of services.

It is characteristic of a Brazilian wax to remove most of the hairs in the bikini area. Yes, it does not leave it bare, but rather it leaves a strip of hair that is either shaped like a landing strip, triangle, a square, a martini glass, or you can even have shaped like a heart.

This type of waxing technique makes use of the right combination of wax and cloth. A hot wax (but not too hot that it burns) will be slathered evenly over the area using a wooden waxing stick, then it is carefully and firmly covered with a pieces of cloth. Afterwards, it will be left to cool down and once it’s done the aesthetician will pull it off with a swift motion.

This is a very critical part of the process because any wrong swipe could have you end up on a trip to your gynaecologist. Therefore it is critical that you find a reputable salon to do it. And to make the experience less painful, schedule it a week before and after your period because this is when the area is less sensitive.

If you have lower pain tolerance, you can have this done in smaller strips at a time. Any remaining hairs will be plucked to create that clean strip of hair.

The area will then be moisturized using aloe vera lotion to soothe it, and then it will be complimented with a hydrocortisone cream. This prevents bumps, redness, and ingrown hairs. A salicylic acid scrub may also be applied over the area to exfoliate the area using a fiber washcloth, but you should wait 48 hours before doing so.

It is also important that you avoid hot showers, scrubs, tight panties, sex, saunas, and tanning beds 48 hours after the procedure.

Brazilian Waxing can last you for 2-4 weeks, depending on the rate of your hair growth. But when the hair does grow back, it will be characteristically sparse compared to when you shave it.

Also, it is expected that this will cost you more compared to the typical bikini wax. If you want to keep it totally bare, you can also proceed to what they refer to as a “Hollywood Wax”.
