How an Employee Mindset Can Keep You From Being Your Own Boss

We all have our paths in life. We grow up aspiring to become something. Most of our paths go something like this: \”I\’m going to go to school, graduate, get into a great college, get my master\’s degree, and then work making whatever amount of crap money a year until I can retire at the age of 69 and a half and start collecting social security and living the high life for the last 10 to 20 years of my life. This is the vision of almost everyone and if your trapped within this state of mind it is time today to break free.

You see most don\’t realize that we are initially trapped in the employee mindset from the way that we are raised. Our parents are employees. We see dad work that same job for twenty years struggling to put food on the table and you believe (because this is all you see) that that is what it takes to provide for your family. You believe hard work is necessary to provide for your family. No one has to say it, if this is what you experience. Because an experience is worth 10,000 words. This is a common belief more most people and one of the main causes of the employee mindset.

Ever heard the phrase work smarter, not harder? Crazy thing is that most people decide to, and are willingly choose to work harder, thinking that there will be a greater reward for higher pay. The employee will outwork and out sweat everyone in the hopes that his or her efforts are noticed. After working so hard for a small raise, most begin to question their job and or their place in society. Many entrepreneurs are born this way. Hourly pay is just that. It is hourly pay. No initiative or personal growth is necessary when it comes to same pay every hour, every day, for the rest of your career or until you get the nerve to quit.

Entrepreneurs work the hours that they want when they want. If you build a company from the ground up and it is your company. You could hire people to do the jobs you don\’t want to do and spend more time with your family. Eventually you hire someone else to run the company while you relax on your lifetime vacation. This is the American dream. Make more money and work less. So many people make more money, but they work so hard that it isn\’t worth it. Don\’t do this. Take the path less traveled for more dollars.

Employees will wait to be told what to do. They are trained not to think for themselves and become innovators but to follow instructions exactly the way they were told to do. This works negatively in two ways. The employee will lose his or her creative mind and lose confidence in self.

When you have an idea do you act on it or do you wait? Do you ask friends and family for advice first or do you just take action. Now it\’s not bad to ask for advice but if you cannot trust your own mind to have the right decisions, this is a huge problem. Learn to have confidence in yourself and take responsibility for your actions. If you fail it\’s your own fault and if you succeed it is because you did what was necessary to succeed. Listen to your own creative thoughts and don\’t be afraid to take action on it.

It all begins in the mind. From there what you think becomes your actions and your actions determine your destiny. No one wants to be destined for a lifetime as an employee. This is not the fun route. This is not the happy route. Don\’t wait until you are 69 and a half to retire. There are people who are making 30,000 dollars a month doing the exact same thing that I am doing right now. Align yourself with successful people and retire early.

Time is more valuable than money. Time is a priceless commodity and if it could be bought and sold it would be the most expensive thing on the planet. When you work your whole life as an employee half your life is gone just in the work force. Doctors work harder and more hours than many other professions and they make between 150 to 500 thousand dollars a year. Is it really worth it to make so much and have so little time to spend it?

Take the road less traveled. Being an entrepreneur takes courage, it takes believing in yourself, and it takes some failure to truly become good at it. But the rewards are far greater than what you would get from a 40 hour work week. Make today the day you change the way you think. Today is the death of the employee mindset.
