When I go out to a dance club, I may not necessarily be looking for best nightlife in the area, but I want to go somewhere where I know I am going to have a good time and get to dance. Admittedly, I am kind of old school and do not necessarily see the attraction to a lot of the current music you hear in clubs today. Nothing against a lot of these DJs, but I just don’t get what it is that they are trying to do with the music. If I have my choice, I am going to stay in the clubs where the DJ isn’t going to play anything by Lady Gaga.

Now I don’t know Ms. Gaga personally, and I see that obviously millions of people like her music and her style, but it’s just not for me. Then again, there isn’t too much that is actually very contemporary that I could actually dance to, and it’s not just because I am a terrible dancer. To me it just seems like a lot of teeth-rattling noise and screaming. There isn’t even a good beat you can dance to.

That is why I look for a certain type of deejay in a dance club. I like a guy who is willing to mix things up and play some older stuff that people in my age bracket can appreciate. I know most of the people in the club weren’t born until 1990, but you can mix in a little old stuff now and then for us geezers.

Besides skipping over Lady Gaga, a deejay doesn’t have to play everything at the loudest possible volume with so much bass that you feel like your head is going to leave your shoulders. I know you are at the club to do dancing, but you are allowed to talk to people too while you are there. If I can leave the club without having a headache that isn’t caused by a buzz of alcohol, then the deejay has done a good job.

I also like to see a deejay that is willing to take a request for a song now and then. Deejays want to be able to plan their own course of action for the evening, but a really good one will listen to you once in a while without having to slip him a bribe to get your song played. Okay, so most of them have probably not even heard of the people I listen to, but that’s okay, at least they are willing to give it a shot.

For me, the best nightlife around is going to have a DJ who, by the end of evening has your respect for the job he did. He will also be the kind of guy who hasn’t stolen every good-looking woman in the place by the time he is done. Share the wealth my friend, we can’t all be the cool guy behind the turntables!
