Get Your Book Written Right Now and Stop Making Excuses

Thinking about writing a book is easy. Writing it isn’t. Or so you may believe.

Whether you’re a first time writer thinking about writing a book, or you’re already an author thinking about writing your next book, the task of actually sitting down and writing may seem difficult.

Not only that but you probably don’t have the time to take on such a mammoth task.

So what can you do?

You can stop thinking about it and just do it.

You don’t have to get it right you just have to get it written.

What do I mean by that?

Many people think that you have to edit your writing as you’re working. But you should never do that.

Writing and editing are two totally separate tasks and should never be done together. So you need to write your first draft all the way through and THEN go back and edit it.

You can edit a first draft, but you can’t edit a blank page. So get your book written and then go back and do the editing.

But before you write a word of your book you need to make sure that there are readers out there who want to buy it. So get to know your audience first. Get a feel for what they want to read. What problems they may be having. What frustrates them. Or, if you’re a fiction author, the types of novels they want to read.

Online forums are a great place to get to know your potential readers as well as the comments left on other authors’ blogs.

And once you know what your book will be about, then comes the task of writing it.

Some writers work in short burst of time (about 30 to 40 minutes) while others work in long hauls of several hours at a time. How you work is up to you and how you feel and your schedule.

Get to know the best time of day for you to write and then use it to your best advantage.

Some people like to write early in the morning while others prefer to stay up late and burn the proverbial midnight oil.

Time block your writing. Plan it into your day. Don’t leave it as something you’ll do in your spare time. There’s no such thing as spare time. So plan ahead and use the time you allot to writing to actually doing it.

Let other things go. Remember that when you’re writing there is nothing else you need to be doing.

Don’t think about picking the kids up from school or what you’re going to make for dinner. Plan out time to do these things, then forget about them. Set a timer if you need to but empty your mind of all other things and focus completely on your writing.

Make sure you know your subject well before you start to write and have a good detailed outline written down. That way you’ll know exactly what you should be writing and your ideas will flow better.

I once did a writing challenge where I had to write an ebook in 3 days and start getting sales in 7.

Did I do it? Yes. Not only did I complete the challenge but I excelled by getting dozens of sales in just a few days after completing the ebook.

And today, that same ebook (although I’ve improved it and added a few bonus products to it) is still selling today.

So if you want to be a successful book author, or ebook author, you need to get serious about it and start writing instead of sitting around and making excuses.

Writing and publishing 1 ebook every month is easy. Any serious writer can do it. And it doesn’t matter if you write fiction or non-fiction.

You just need to take a day to research and plan what you’re book will be about. Then write a detailed outline that will be easy for you to follow as you work.

Then sit down and write. Don’t make excuses. Don’t surf the web. Turn off your phone and the door bell. Go somewhere else like the library or the park to write if you have to.

Just stop making excuses for being lazy and get that book written.

And if you decide you’re not going to start writing your book now, then when are you going to do it?
