If you find yourself in Las Vegas on vacation or business or for a convention, consider taking a Grand Canyon air tour. These flights offer the traveler incredible views of the canyon and if booked right can be very affordable.

When I say \”flights\” I\’m specifically referring to helicopter and airplane tours to the Canyon\’s West Rim and South Rim.

So let\’s start with helicopters. These tours take off daily from the Las Vegas Strip and various satellite airstrips that surround the metro area. Do note that if you depart from The Strip you\’ll pay a premium.

For many travelers, Strip departures are worth their weight in gold because of the convenience. See, if you depart from Boulder City, for instance, you\’ll have to take a 30-minute shuttle to the terminal. For some, this is fine, especially because it saves you money.

Las Vegas helicopter tours are either aerial or land. The air-only flights are quite awesome because they let you sample the canyon in the shortest amount of time and for the least amount of money.

Landing tours, however, will give you a more personalized experience of the canyon. There are numerous landing tours out there but the one most travelers enjoy goes to the bottom for a picnic. There\’s another that includes a boat and Skywalk tickets.

TO my mind, landing tours are special for several reasons. The first is that they are only available from Las Vegas. The second is that they can only be done at the West Rim. This makes them unique and a must-do if you have the budget.

Airplane tours are less expensive than helicopter tours. This is due to there being more seats and a lower cost of operation. Further, they fly at a higher elevation than helis. Other than that, airplane tours get you to the West Rim faster and offer numerous side trips including a heli to the bottom.

There are two Vegas airplane tours I like. The first is the one is the West Rim landing tour with optional Skywalk. This one is important to note because some travelers want to see the Skywalk first before doing it. I think this is a smart approach and if you do go for it it\’s not difficult to add the Skywalk.

The other airplane trip is the one that goes direct from Las Vegas to the South Rim. This trip is important because helicopters can\’t do it. And, if you decide you want to do a helicopter ride, you can add one to the package.

I get a lot of travelers asking me about flight plans. They are the same for helicopters and airplanes. In essence, you\’ll fly over Lake Mead, Hoover Dam and the West Rim. From there, you\’ll either land or come back to Las Vegas. If you take the South Rim direct, you\’ll carry on to the South Rim.

Weather is also a popular subject. Fact of the matter is we can\’t control it. But for the most part the weather in the southwest is very good. However, if there are issues, the best tour companies will refund all of your money or schedule you on a flight that best meets your needs.

I hope this sheds light on flights to the Grand Canyon. Armed with this information, it\’s simply a matter of deciding between airplane and helicopter flights and the rim you want to visit. Other than that, welcome to Las Vegas and enjoy the incredible natural beauty of the canyon.
