If you\’re headed to Las Vegas this summer, remember to add a bus tour to the Grand Canyon to your list of things to do and see. Trips depart daily and go to the West Rim and the South Rim. But don\’t wait to buy it when you arrive because tours are selling out.

Indeed, bus tours are popular and it\’s my opinion this is so because they are such a great value. For example, an all-inclusive bus tour can be purchased for as little as $85 per person! And that includes a hot buffet style lunch and a Hoover Dam photo stop.

In nearly all cases, bus tours include free hotel pick up and drop off at all major Strip resorts. Departures for the Canyon are usually once a day around 7 a. M. And most include a light breakfast consisting of coffee and pastries. Not bad at all if you ask me.

The West Rim

This rim is only 120 miles from Las Vegas. It\’s a 2.5-hour drive to reach the entrance of Grand Canyon West. There are multiple kinds of tours ranging from basic to combo. The most popular one includes full access to the Park and its shuttles and VIP tickets to the Grand Canyon Skywalk.

The Skywalk, which is also known as the Glass Bridge, is a horseshoe-shaped, all-glass platform that lets you walk 70 feet over the edge until your are standing an amazing 4,000 feet over the bottom. It\’s a one-of-a-kind experience packed with views of the Canyon you\’ll remember for a lifetime.

Then there\’s the tour that comes with a helicopter ride to the bottom. It takes upwards of 15 minutes to descend to the base. I\’ve done it and it\’s amazing flying into the Canyon\’s gorge and dropping in among the buttes and side canyons until you reach the banks of the Colorado River. Here you\’ll deplane and spend about 30 minutes unless you upgrade and decide to do the boat tour, which is awesome.

South Rim

This rim is 277 miles from Las Vegas. The drive works out to about 5.5 hours one way. At first this appears to be too much time to spend on the road. But the buses these days are the height of luxury and comfort so when you arrive you\’re fresh and ready to go do some exploring. My favorite landmarks include Mather Point, Yavapai Point, the Rim Trail and the Bright Angel Trail.

So which rim should you visit, right? It really depends on time and what your travel objectives are. However, here\’s a quick way to settle the matter: Go to the West Rim if you are looking for thrills and adventure and to the South Rim if you want incredible scenic beauty. And remember, the West Rim is hotter than the South during Summer and warmer during winter.

Conclusion

Las Vegas bus tours to the Grand Canyon are a great deal for travelers who are trying to stretch their budget. Destination choices include the West Rim and the South Rim, with the former being just 2.5 hours away. If you go West Rim, consider bundling in Skywalk tickets or the helicopter ride to the bottom. If South, stay with the basic unless you have the money to add a helicopter ride. And remember: These trips last an entire day so try to avoid scheduling activities afterward.
