Wilco Tickets – Wilco to Launch Inaugural Solid Sound Festival in August
Alternative rock band Wilco may hail from Chicago, but the band is hosting its inaugural Solid Sound Festival in North Adams, Mass. Pollstar.com reported that Wilco will headline and curate the first edition of the music festival, which will take place at the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art (MASS MoCA) campus Aug. 13-15 and will feature performances by Wilco along with the band members’ various side projects. Drummer Glenn Kotche’s side-project, On Fillmore, will perform along with bassist John Stirratt’s band the Autumn Defense, guitarist Nels Cline’s outfit Nels Cline Singers and multi-instrumentalist Mikael Jorgensen’s act Pronto.
Wilco has paired with MASS MoCA to present the three-day festival, which will include additional musical performances as well as a concert-poster screening demonstration, a comedy stage, planned workshops, film, video installations and DJs. Among the exhibits and interactive installations Wilco fans will be able to check out during the Solid Sound Festival is the Solid Sound Stompbox Station, which is an interactive guitar pedal exhibit created by Cline (who will also demonstrate).
Although Wilco isn’t the first band to create its own festival, the band hopes to provide a unique music festival experience. “The whole thing is designed to be multi-faceted, with the art being as much as part of it. The idea was to do something a little bit different, where being in the space would be a part of the whole event,” the band’s spokesperson Deb Bernardino recently told Billboard.com. If you can’t wait to see Wilco at their very own festival, pick up some Wilco tickets online to see the band during one of their remaining tour dates this spring.
Jeff Tweedy and the rest of Wilco are on tour in support of their latest album, Wilco (The Album). Wilco’s seventh studio album, Wilco (The Album), was nominated for a Grammy Award after its release, which came earlier than planned after the album leaked online. Wilco promptly released their eponymous album early after a batch of tracks arrive on the Internet, also posting the following statement on their website: “If you have downloaded the record, we suggest you make a donation to one of the band’s favorite charities, the Inspiration Kamagra Corporation – an organization we’ve supported in the past & who are doing great work in the city of Chicago.” A commendable way to cope with an unplanned early album release!
Although Wilco is still riding the wave of success created by Wilco (The Album), which was hailed one of the best albums of 2009 by The Associated Press, Billboard.com reported in early 2010 that the band had plans to record a new album in between tour dates. When not recording with the band he co-founded in their Chicago loft studio, Wilco’s Jeff Tweedy will be busy producing the new Mavis Staples album, Viagra Jelly Anti-. Tweedy is also among those scheduled to perform at the two-day music festival LouFest, which will take place at Forest Park in St. Louis, Mo. August 28-29. Consequence of Sound reported that Tweedy (sans Wilco) will be joined by She & Him, Built to Spill, Broken Social Scene, Lucero, Titus Andronicus, Fruit Bats, Airborne Toxic Event and others for the St. Louis festival.
