Home Fitness Ideas for Kids to Follow

Can you remember back to the time when you were a kid? Just the thought of it can probably bring so many good feelings.

There was so much free time and so much to do at that time. You could go bike riding around the neighborhood, swimming in the public pool, or better yet, go explore the mountains or caves in the areas surrounding your town.

The possibilities were endless at that age. You could never sit in one spot and be entertained.

Kids these days have a much different lifestyle. While many kids still go out and play and remain active, many young ones are trading in the bikes and tree climbs for controllers and remotes.

With the increases popularity of TV and video games over the last several decades, the prospect of kids sitting on their butts all day has become even more popular.

Many will spend hours and hour of their day staring at the TV watching their favorite cartoons, or sticking their hands on that joystick, trying to get to the next level of the game. After too much of doing this, children can just get burnt out.

And what is worse is that getting burnt out is only part of the disadvantages of spending that much time inside the house. Childhood obesity is also on the rise because too many kids are not using their agile bodies to have fun and get exercise; instead, they are slaves to the television.

It is your job as a parent to make sure your children aren’t becoming addicted to these harmful electronics. You can help them see that they can be doing many other fun things with their time.

In addition to the more common things that kids do for exercise, there are many other creative ideas that you can have your children to get their muscles moving. Here is a great list of ideas that you can apply to your family:

Active chores: having your children do certain types of chores can kill two birds with one stone: they will get out and get moving, while at the same time doing a task that you won’t have to do later yourself!

If you have a dog, you could send your child out to walk it. It will get them out in the fresh air and they might eventually start running and playing the dog. Even if you don’t have a dog, you can do a good deed for your neighbors by having your child walk their dog!

There are also tons of different types of yard work you can have your kids to get those muscles moving. You can pick a couple every week or so for your little runt to do so they can have some variety in their day.

You can have them go out in the yard and pick up stray garbage or other lawn nuisances. Doing this will have them walking all over the yard and using their strength to bend up and down.

Also you can have them pull weeds in the garden, rake the yard, or wash the car. Any of these ideas can give your child the wiggles and also be beneficial to you!

Fun Lawn Activities: If your kid is not very keen on doing chores all the time for exercise, don’t worry. You can have them do their chores from time to time, and the rest of the time can be spent doing activities outside of your house.

There are so many outdoor activities that you can take advantage of to help your kid move around. One idea is to have them play sports with their siblings or even you.

This could include basketball, soccer, baseball, or any other sport that you can do in the confines of your own property. Children will get so engrossed in the game that they will forget that they are getting their necessary exercise for the day!

You could also fly a kite, build a fort, or toss a Frisbee around. There are literally countless ideas that you can use to your advantage.

Utilize your own creativity, or go online to see what other parents have done to get their kids off the couch and into the fresh air. You won’t be sorry once you’ve done it!
