Lollapalooza Tickets – Bands You Can’t Miss in 2010

This August, Grant Park will transform into Ground Zero for one of the hottest music festivals in the country for three full days, bringing some of the best-known indie-rock acts to rock out here. But with that overwhelming number of bands on the lineup, how does a music fan decide which acts to catch?

While each person is different and has their own subjective tastes, this helpful guide will highlight some of the acts you should pay special attention to at this year’s festival.

Wavves – Friday, August 6
Wavves is going to performing early on the first day of Lollapalooza, and is a great, feel-good act Kamagra jelly to start the weekend off with. Fronted by San Diego native Nathan Williams, the band’s distortion-heavy, druggy surf-rock appeared on critic’s shortlists of bands to watch in 2009, when they released their self-titled debut.

Sadly, Williams got a little carried away with the drugs, and, when combined with the pressure of exploding in popularity overnight, he had a very public meltdown on stage at Spain’s Primavera Music Festival last summer. The blogosphere trained its focus on him, but he recovered and resurfaced with a stronger, cleaner, more rock-centric album called “King of the Beach.” Don’t miss hearing his new songs.

F*ck Buttons – Friday, August 6
Their band name might be too hot for some marquees, but theater managers might need to overcome their aversion to F*ck Buttons’ profane name. The duo’s pulsing, emotionally atmospheric electronica earned them nods from a variety of indie-rock blogs in 2009 with the release of their debut, “Street Horrrsing.” Their live shows are known for being as intense as their music, so come out expecting to have your body rocked by them.

Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes – Saturday, August 7
The frontman for Edward Sharpe isn’t actually an Edward at all-it’s an Alex. Alex Ebert used to be the frontman for indie band Ima Robot. Now he’s leading a pack called Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes, with a fictional mythology behind it about a space-faring, rock and roll messiah (hm…sounds familiar). Rather than save the planet, though, this lovelorn alien keeps losing track of his mission and following beautiful women, instead. “Home,” the band’s seminal single, became a hit last year, and is still a popular track that’s floating around on music blogs. Make sure you catch these guys live.

The xx – Saturday, August 7
Soulful and sexy with a dark tinge to their dreamy, minimalist rock, the xx started winning over critics when they played South By Southwest this year, quickly becoming one of the most buzzed about bands out there. The band’s music has drawn comparisons to quiet trip-hop acts like Portishead. They’re going to continue being a big deal at Lollapalooza, and will probably have one of the busiest stages when they go up to play on Saturday. Our recommendation: Get there early.
