Sheryl Crow Tickets – New Album ‘100 Miles from Memphis’ Due in July

Sheryl Crow is taking fans 100 Miles From Memphis when her new album arrives on July 20. The album title isn’t just a figure of speech, as the Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter literally grew up in Kennett, Mo., which is around 100 miles from Memphis, Tenn. Crow recorded the 12-track album with co-producers Doyle Bramhall II and Justin Stanley at Henson Studio in Los Angeles and Electric Lady in New York. Crow recruited the Rolling Stones’ Keith Richards (playing guitar on the reggae-tinged track “Eye to Eye”), Citizen Cope (appearing on “Sideways”) and Memphis native Justin Timberlake (lending his vocals to an Al Green-esque rendition of Terence Trent D’Arby’s “Sign Your Name”).

Speaking to Billboard.com about 100 Miles from Memphis, Crow gushed, “The timing of it was perfect. I’ve always had a lot of people around me…encouraging me to really get back to my roots. I was a kid that grew up listening to the radio; we’d tune the transistors to pick up the Memphis stations, and that kind of music was just part of our consciousness. It just was a perfect time to go full-throttle with it.”

The first single off Crow’s forthcoming new album is “Summer Days,” which she says is “about intimacy and desire and…vulnerability, and about love lost and lost found.” The album isn’t all love songs, however, as tracks like “Eye to Eye,” “Peaceful Feeling” and “Say What You Want” include what Crow describes as “political jabs.”

“Sign Your Name” isn’t the only cover song Crow included on 100 Miles from Memphis, as the album also ends with a cover of the Jackson 5’s “I Want You Back.” Crow was a backing singer on the late Michael Jackson’s 1988 world tour and recalled to Billboard.com, “We were cialis price recording an unreleased track by Marvin Gaye called ‘Desperate Situation’ and it was in that range so I just busted into (‘I Want You Back’) and the band followed, and when it was down everyone was like, ‘What in the world?! We’ve got to put that on the album!’ It’s definitely an homage; the (Jackson 5) was the first album I ever owned, and the guy gave me my first job in the business and was incredibly generous with his talent with me.”

Although Crow has been busy putting the finishing touches on her new album and performing live, the singer always puts family first and recently added a new arrival to her family: second adopted son Levi James. Speaking about James, who joins three-year-old Wyatt Steven, Crow wrote on her website: “I have some exciting news to share with you guys. Wyatt has a new little brother! Levi James was born April 30th. Just wanted you all to be the first to hear the good news!” Crow plans on bringing her two boys along for her summer tour.
