NASCAR Tickets – Joey Logano Sets Nationwide Record at Kentucky
Just one week after becoming the talk of the NASCAR circuit for igniting a nasty feud with Kevin Harvick at Pocono, Joey Logano is making NASCAR headlines again. This time, however, he’s in the news for something that doesn’t have to do with his intrusive father.
Logano made a bold statement with racing in both the Sprint Cup and Nationwide circuits the week following his early June tiff with Kevin Harvick, performing incredibly under pressure at Kentucky on June 12 and 13. Not letting his disappointing finish at Pocono cloud his concentration at Kentucky, Logano posted a solid 10th place position at the Sprint Cup’s Heluva Good! Sour Cream Dips 400 on June 13 at the Michigan International Speedway (Harvick finished a modest 19th, which had to make Logano’s day.)
Even more impressive than his Cup Series race on the 13th, however, was Logano’s total domination in the Nationwide Series the previous day. Setting a Nationwide record June 12, Joey Logano not only won the Meijer 300 but also did so from the pole for the third year in a row, becoming the first Nationwide driver to ever accomplish the feat.
20-year-old Logano made NASCAR history and in doing so became the ‘King of Kentucky’ for the weekend, making a bold statement that he’s here to stay. Logano has been gaining fans like crazy this year even despite his recent temper flare with Harvick, and he’s exactly the kind of young driver who’s going to sell NASCAR ticket for years to come.
Logano is one of the youngest drivers in the league and still has a lot to learn before he’s winning Sprint Cup championships, but he could be a lock for the Chase this year if he continues his winning ways on the track. The Joe Gibbs Racing driver is currently (as of June 15) in 17th place in driver standings in the Cup, though in a tight race with Clint Kamagra Soft Bowyer (13), Dale Earnhardt Jr. (14), Ryan Newman (15) and Martin Truex Jr. (16) to make the Top 12.
Joey “Sliced Bread” (as in the greatest thing since) Logano has been battling his way up the racing circuit since his youth, starting his career as a driver in 1996 at age six in the quarter midgets in his home state of Connecticut. The child prodigy turned heads on the track in 1997, when he won his first Eastern Grand National Championship in the Jr. Stock Car Division, and he even earned the attention and praise of the legendary Mark Martin when he was just 15.
Soon thereafter, Logano hopped into the driver’s seat in the NASCAR Nationwide Series, becoming at 18 years and 21 days old the youngest driver in history to win a Nationwide race at the Meijer 300 in Kentucky. He’s since become a staple on the Sprint Cup Series circuit, as well, also breaking the record as the youngest driver to ever win a Cup Series race in 2009 at the Lenox Tools 301 in Loudon.
This year Joey Logano is out to set even more records, and his three-time winning record at Kentucky in the Nationwide Series is just one more stellar accomplishment the young driver has achieved!
