Tips for a Successful Pool Party

In the heat of summer, having a pool party is a fun way to cool down and share the joys of owning a pool with friends and family. A special occasion is a good excuse to have a get-together, whether it is a birthday party, 4th of July cookout or end of summer bash. Here are a few tips to make sure this party is the best one of the summer.

Cleaning
Clean the pool. Use an automatic pool cleaner, such as a pool frog, to take care of all of the basic surface areas, then give the corners and crevices a once-over. Remove any mold or residue if needed. Wipe down the handles on the pool steps and hose down the diving board if there is one. Sweep the pool’s deck and entranceway to the house and remove any stains if possible. If there are rocks in the landscaping, make sure they are all in their beds to prevent guests from stepping on them and hurting their feet. Follow this up by hosing down the area. Wipe down all lounge chairs and tables. Dust off the poolside umbrella and bring a few trashcans outdoors.

Routine Maintenance
Add water to correct the pool’s waterline if necessary. Check the balance on the pool’s chemicals with test strips and adjust as needed. The water should be clean and clear. If it is not, correct the problem. Check the pumps and filters to ensure they are working properly. Clean or Levitra replace the filters.

Supplies
Provide extra clean, dry towels. Put up a towel rack or hang a clothesline in an out-of-the-way spot where guests can put theirs to dry in between dips in the pool. Consider getting a bug zapper or using citronella torches for the evening party. Inflate and float a few beach balls and rafts on the water.

Festive Atmosphere
Use a sound system or hire a band to provide musical entertainment outside for guests. Be sure electrically charged items are kept clear of the water and splash zones. Hang decorations or party lights for a festive atmosphere. Provide a few activities for guests that do not go in the water. This may include a deck of cards, coloring books or lawn games. If the pool has lights, check to make sure they are in proper working condition.

Food and Drink
Swimming makes people hungry. Have a cookout, invite guests to bring a pot luck dish, prepare food in advance or have it catered. Avoid serving anything that requires the hosts of the party to be in the kitchen for any length of time. Provide water and other cool drinks. If it is an adult party, be sure to include non-alcoholic beverages as well to keep people properly hydrated.

Safety
Find a creative way to post some helpful pool rules if there will be children present. Make sure youngsters are supervised at all times. Find out from parents if there are any who cannot swim. Have a first aid kit handy and keep an ice pack in the freezer. There may be an unexpected injury.

Comfort
Make sure there is somewhere for guests to change their clothes and use the restroom. Provide shade on a sunny day and shelter in the event of rain. Use a pool heater if it turns chilly.
