Private Versus Public Colleges
When you think about a private school, the first image you get in your head is that of a student in a uniform with a pleated skirt, black rimmed glasses, a shoulder bag and a navy blue sweater hanging over her white collared blouse. You picture a beautiful school with great landscaping and very expensive cars parked in the lot.
You may picture snobby kids walking around the halls talking about how rich their parents are and walking around like they own the school. The point is that the general view on private schools is that only the rich can afford them.
This makes you think that those kinds of schools must be better than the free ones. Do you need to attend a private institution to get a better education?
There is quite a debate going on with this issue over the elementary, middle, and high school level. But that also extends to the college level.
Even though public (state and community) colleges usually charge less tuition to go to, this is not always true. And just because some private schools are more expensive does not mean that those are the best choices for you to go to.
Money is a big factor in deciding where you want to go after you graduate high school. But it should not be the only factor that dictates the next four years of your life.
There are many things to consider when deciding which school to attend. One of those things is what you want to major in.
Not every higher institute of learning has every major. If you already know what you want to do with the rest of your life relating to a career choice, it is very important to consider where you should go to get the best education for that field.
Talking to any guidance counselors that your high school may have would be very beneficial to you because they are up to date as to which schools cost the most and which schools have majors that you are interested in. You will find a lot of people out there that have strong opinions about where to attend college.
Realize that a lot of these strong opinions are based on where they went to school and that they are going to be pretty biased in which kind of university they think is best. Private schools boast smaller classes and more direct interactions with your professors.
But there are a lot of private institutions that have large classes. Usually you will find that most general education courses that are taken in your first two years at any university are going to have big lecture halls that fit two hundred students or more.
Once you get accepted into your actual major program, then they tend to have smaller class sizes. Both public and private universities will lower their class size to help students more in their specific field.
Both public Cialis and private universities offer financial aid and you can qualify for federal loans and grants that will help pay for your education. There are also many businesses and other organizations that offer scholarships.
Depending on what state college you attend, you will be able to find smaller private schools that cost less. Do not forget to not only include tuition, but also room and board.
The cost of living will vary between places and it should be considered when making your decision as to what college to attend. How much debt are you willing to graduate with after you take out loans for four years?
Going to a good school is important and may help you immensely after you graduate but just because you went to an Ivy League school does not guarantee you that you will get that dream job that you have always wanted. You may be able to attend a smaller, less expensive school where you would get more attention and still be able to get your dream job.
Remember that high prices do not always mean high quality. Figure out what you need in your education and make an informed decision about where you will attend college.
