Garth Brooks is one of a few names in country music that is larger than life. Brooks and legendary quarterback Troy Aikman are two of the stars that were on hand on April 13 to cut the ribbon for the Child Life ZONE for Denver Health. The ZONE is a unique structure designed for therapy and education of pediatric patients as well as their families. Patients aren’t treated in the ZONE; instead it offers patients a place to get away from the normal hospital atmosphere to play, learn and relax, according to the press release. To create the ZONE, Denver Health worked with The Garth Brooks Teammates for Kids Foundation and the Troy Aikman Foundation. Other celebrities to show up for the opening included John Elway, Kyle Orton and Brian Griese.
Country fans in Sun Valley, Idaho will get a rare chance to see Brooks outside of Sin City in August. On Aug. 1, the country superstar will be holding a special charity concert with an unlikely partner. He will take part in the Sun Valley Summer Symphony’s only fundraiser. Brooks will provide quite the show for that performance, as he will be performing with the symphony as well as on his own with just his guitar.
According to The Boot, Garth’s appearance even surprised the symphony’s executive director, Jennifer Teisinger, who said, “We didn’t seek a country music star … it’s been a group effort to have Garth Brooks play at our benefit. Steve Wynn has been very supportive, and we are putting this show together with Garth. It is a collaborative effort.”
Earlier in April, Garth Brooks also made his way to Washington, D.C. to accept an award during the 2010 Grammy on the Hill Awards. His efforts to further the rights of music artists earned him the recognition, along with U.S. Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) and U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.). The award ceremony also featured Marc Roberge of O.A.R. leading a group of U.S. Senators and Representatives singing Brooks’ classic song “Friends in Low Places.” Brooks was also able to meet President Barack Obama in the Oval Office.
Brooks earned his place in country music history due to his many hits, which brought rock and pop influences into country. He drew attention for his fun hits as well as his heartfelt ballads and some of his classic tracks include “The Dance,” “What She’s Doing Now,” “The River,” “That Summer” and “Longneck Bottle.”
