NBA Tickets – Draft Day Winners
Here are some teams that should have been very pleased with the results of the 2010 NBA Draft.
Washington Wizards: Getting John Wall was obviously the biggest part of their night, but he wasn’t the only good pick made by Washington. While Wall has already started selling NBA tickets, soon-to-be Wizard Kevin Seraphin was a really solid pick as well. The Bulls will officially send the Frenchman over to Washington once the salary cap is set, as a part Kamagra Soft of the Kirk Hinrich deal. He might not actually come to the NBA for a year, but Seraphin has a ton of upside. He’s raw right now, but he’s got good size and athleticism, and has an NBA body. He should develop into a solid defender and rebounder, similarly to Serge Ibaka of Oklahoma City. While I liked the team’s first two picks, I wasn’t as crazy about the other two. Trevor Booker projects to be a decent role player, but he didn’t make a ton of sense after picking Seraphin. Hamady N’diaye was an upside flyer. Still, getting Wall and Seraphin made their night.
Detroit Pistons: The Pistons desperately needed a big man in this draft, and though they didn’t get one that can add the kind of toughness that Joe Dumars covets, Monroe should give them a big boost on the interior. Monroe was the most skilled player in this draft class and he’s ready to contribute on the NBA level. He might never develop into a star, but he’s a smart player that is already one of the best passing big men in the league. He’s also the kind of post player that a team can run their offense through. The Pistons then used their second-round pick on two-guard Terrico White. White is not all that polished, but he’s a great athlete that could become a solid bench contributor for Detroit. The Pistons needed to have a good draft and they did.
Los Angeles Clippers: The Clippers started their night by landing Wake Forest small forward Al-Farouq Aminu with the eighth pick. While Aminu definitely has some bust potential, he’s also got a ton of upside and was the best player available at eight. He helps fill a position of need for the Clips. The pick I really loved, though, was nabbing Eric Bledsoe at 18. The Clippers shipped a future first-rounder to land the Kentucky point guard and now have a point of the future to backup Baron Davis. Bledsoe is going to be a very good player. The team also landed Willie Warren with the 54th pick. Warren probably would have been a lottery pick had he come out last year, so why not take a chance on him near the end of the second round?
New Jersey Nets: Derrick Favors has as much upside as any player in this draft and he should fit in very nicely next to center Brook Lopez. I love the fit of Favors on this young team. He needs to develop offensively, but he’s ready to contribute in other ways right now. The team also swapped picks with Atlanta and landed Texas forward Damion James at 24. James will add some toughness to this New Jersey roster and be able to come in and play from the get-go. This was a really solid draft for the Nets, a team that should be much improved in 2010-11.
Toronto Raptors: The Raptors got great value in both of their picks. Getting Ed Davis at 13 could end up being a huge steal. Davis will bring the rebounding and defense that the Raptors desperately need on their front line, but he also has considerable upside. Had he played with better guards this past season at UNC, he might have been a Top 5 pick. The Raptors also landed Solomon Alabi, pegged by most experts as a first-rounder, by trading for the 50th pick. He’s a project, but he’s got great size and could be a solid interior presence on the defensive end in time. The theme of the Raptors’ draft was definitely value.
Sacramento Kings: The Kings look like they had their second consecutive good draft. DeMarcus Cousins brings considerable question marks with him, but he’s got a great chance to give the Kings their second straight Rookie of the Year. He’s a monster on the boards and has a fantastic post game. If he can keep his act together, watch out. The Kings also landed a project center in Hassan Whiteside in the second round. He’s got a massive upside and could develop into an elite defender, which would be a great complement to Cousins. There was great value in the Whiteside pick.
Los Angeles Lakers: The Lakers had two second-round picks and they got two high upside guys in Devin Ebanks and Derrick Character. Both of these guys could be busts, as can any second round pick, but a good team like L.A. can afford to swing for the fences.
