Tasting Great Food in DC
Washington, DC is not only the home to everything government in the United States. It is also home to some great cuisine and fabulously fun festivals to showcase such delectable dishes.
There are many food events in the area as well as annual food festivals to check out while you are in the area. DC hosts cooking events at a variety of venues throughout the year.
You can find these special food and eatery festivals in many locations throughout the city. This is a great way to get to taste fine cuisine in many forms.
First, there is the Alexandria Restaurant Week which is where more than 40 eateries offer special menus and pricing to entice visitors to get a taste of what they have just five miles south of Washington, DC. This is a perfect time to try a new bistro at reduced prices.
Also, Annapolis Restaurant Week is a great opportunity for area residents and vacationers to treat themselves to great cuisine at a reasonable price. Annapolis Restaurants offer special menus for this set apart event.
Bethesda Chevy Chase Restaurant Week is one of Bethesda, Maryland’s best eateries which offer affordable prices. More than 30 of its finest bistros will be offering lunches for $15 and dinners for $30 at a gourmet standard event; though it is in Maryland, it is just a quick drive from the DC area.
Also, there is a nearby Chocolate Lovers Festival in Fairfax, Virginia. This is an annual two day event that is held each year in February in Old Town Fairfax.
There is a Chocolate Challenge, Taste of Chocolate, Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast and much more. If you love chocolate, this is an event you will not want to miss.
The Kids Restaurant Week in Washington, DC will host a week of kid friendly cuisine and fixed price menus at some of the area’s most popular eateries. You can find more details about the Kids Restaurant Week online or in the area; this is nice, because not everyone accommodates children for such fun events like this one.
The Maryland Seafood Festival in Annapolis is another close by option that celebrates the tradition of great cuisine with some cooking, music and family fun. Some of the areas greatest restaurateurs and chefs gather together to participate in this weekend long festival showcasing great Maryland Seafood including crabs, oysters and a wide variety of fish.
Another option is the Metropolitan Cooking and Entertainment Show in Washington DC. This is held in the Convention Center and it focuses on culinary creations and entertainment; look for dates, times, schedules and ticket information online.
Mount Vernon’s Wine Festival and Sunset Tours is an opportunity to celebrate the history of wine in Virginia with special evening tours of the Mansion and cellar. You can also expect appearances by “George and Martha Washington” and live jazz on the east lawn Viagra Jelly of George Washington’s Mount Vernon home.
Another option is the National Capital Barbecue Battle for those who love barbeque and would appreciate the culinary samples, cooking demonstrations, interactive displays and h children’s activities. This is a fun, sizzling summer festival right in the heart of Washington, DC.
Also in the area, the National Harbor Food and Wine Festival includes more than 70 exhibitors representing the Chesapeake region’s diverse restaurants, food crafters, wineries, breweries and wine and beer retailers. This is a bazaar style emporium that features gourmet dishes, specialty wines, cutlery glassware, handcrafted accessories, high end kitchen equipment, cookware and much more.
Also on the national level, the National Harbor Restaurant Week offers prix fixe lunch for $20 and three course dinner menus for $35. National Harbor Restaurants feature a variety of cuisines including American, Chinese, Mexican, Seafood and more.
The Northern Virginia Summer Brewfest is also not very far away from DC. It is an annual beer festival with cuisine, live music and children’s activities. The Brewfest is held at Morven Park in Leesburg, Virginia.
The Old Town Alexandria Food and Wine Festival is a classic favorite to locals and travelers. This festival combines the Old Town’s best culinary experiences into a spectacular weekend including Vintner Dinners in Alexandria’s premier restaurants, the King Street Sip ‘n Stroll and tastings of Virginia’s locally-grown world class wine and delectable culinary seminars in Grand Tasting ballrooms.
