A-Ha Tickets – ‘Take on Me’ Musicians Make Farewell Tour Rounds
They might be finishing their career together, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t going out with a bang. Norwegian group A-Ha brings their final North American tour to four cities this May – visiting Los Angeles, Chicago, Toronto and New York – before closing out this chapter in their lives. The trio will continue on the Farewell Tour with several European dates, including a sold out Oslo trio of performances.
“We’ve literally lived the ultimate boy’s adventure tale, through a longer, more rewarding career than anyone could hope for,” vocalist Morten Harket, keyboardist Magne Furuholmen and guitarist Paul Waaktaar-Savoy said in a press release. “Doing this now will give us a chance to get more involved in other meaningful aspects of life, be it humanitarian work, politics or whatever else,” continued the group, who have been together since the early ’80s. If you have yet to enjoy some of A-Ha’s music live, this may be your last chance as websites offer A-Ha tickets today.
“We’re retiring as a band, not as individuals. Change is always difficult and it is easy to get set in one’s ways. Now it is time to move on,” continued the prepared statement from the trio of men, who turned heads when they first appeared with their debut platinum-selling album Hunting High & Low. In honor of 25 years together, the group produced a Farewell Tour to the remaining fans of “Take on Me” and other hits, some of the first music videos to make a statement on MTV. While “Take on Me” might have been their most well-known North American hit, with 35 million records sold and their own James Bond hit (from the film “The Living Daylights”), they are leaving with some serious notoriety.
The group released Foot of the Mountain just as they announced that 2010’s world tour would be their last. Released in July 2009 with Universal Music Records, it’s a return to their classic sound that first earned them a North American appetite. Recorded in Oslo, New York and other cities, Morten describes it as a “predominately synth based album.” Magne continues with the description, saying, “Morten has an incredible voice – one of the very few instantly recognizable voices in pop music,” on the group’s website. The album, just like all the others before, showcases the group’s unabashed skill for songwriting – something few other pop groups have been able to replicate.
Formed in the early ’80s, the group instantly rose to the occasion with their hit “Take on Me.” An international success three years after its release, North Americans couldn’t get enough of the MTV music video that fused animation with real-life action. The next single, “The Sun Always Shines on T.V.” was another hit in the UK, pushing the debut Hunting High and Low to the Top 10. They followed up the successful debut with Scoundrel Days, a mature release that continued to push them away from being bunched in with other boy band pop groups. They continued to record though remained lackluster in their attempts to break into America’s mainstream market again. Though “Take on Me” remains their most popular U.S. hit, fans have kept A-Ha as one of their favorite ’80s groups, making the Farewell Tour a favorite.
