Striking Up Summertime Sounds
New York is a great place and an entertainment capitol of the world. There are many summer concerts for you and your family to check out this summer.
First, there is Central Park Summerstage which is a free concert. It is located at Rumsey Playfield and some may be benefit concerts, but most are free.
Also, the New York Philharmonic in the Parks is a free event that takes place from July 13 through July 19. The orchestra will perform in all five New York City boroughs.
Concerts in the Bronx and Staten Island will take place indoors, while the ones in Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens will be outdoors. This is a great opportunity to hear fabulous music.
The Metropolitan Opera in the Parks is another free option in which the Metropolitan Opera will perform six concerts in parks throughout the five boroughs. This will take place between July 12 and 29.
NBC’s Today Show Summer Concerts are also free and take place on Friday mornings from May until August. This is a great opportunity to catch great performances from artists you love at Rockefeller Center; you will also get a chance to be seen on national television.
Also, the GMA’s Summer Concerts take place on Friday mornings between May and August. They are free and are a part of Good Morning America’s audience in Central Park.
This is yet another chance to see popular acts. Before, artists like Norah Jones, the Jonas Brothers and Lady Antebellum have all performed here.
The Naumburg Orchestral Concerts are some of the oldest outdoor concert series in the US for no cost to you at all. The Naumburg features symphonic and semi-classical music on select Tuesdays in Central Park’s Naumburg Bandshell.
Broadway is even brought to Bryant Park for free concerts on Thursdays at 12:30 from July 8 until August 12. You can see performances from popular Broadway shows live in Bryant Park.
The 52nd Annual Washington Square Music Festival is free on select Fridays in July. This is for you and your family to enjoy.
Celebrate Brooklyn is another series with a wide variety of musical performances at the Prospect Park Bandshell. This offers a musical change of scenery and brings the entertainment down to Brooklyn.
The CareFusion Jazz Festival New York runs from June 17 through the 26th. It is held in New York City and there are free events as well as a series of shows at popular venues.
Mad Sq Music is a no cost concert series on select Wednesday nights at 7 pm from June 16 through August 4. Also Music on the Oval is on Wednesday nights from 6-9 pm and is on the Stuyvesant Oval.
River Rocks is held on Pier 54 in Hudson River Park at 14th Street and is held on July 8, 22 and August 12. This is of no cost and provides excellent entertainment.
Rhythm & Blues Festival at Metrotech is no cost on Thursdays from noon until 2 pm. This is a chance to see great R&B performances in Brooklyn.
Also, Silagra the Lincoln Center Festival features ballet, music, dance and more throughout the festival which runs from July 7 through the 25th. Aside from entertainment, there are more free events to keep you busy and having fun.
Mostly Mozart is Lincoln Center series that is dedicated to the works of Mozart. It runs from July 27 until August 21.
Summer in the Square is also of no cost from mid June to mid August in Union Square. It is host to a lunchtime group of concerts, afternoon yoga classes and evening performances.
Summergarden is presented in the MoMA Sculpture Garden on Sunday evenings between July 11 and August 1. It opens at 7 pm and consists of 90 minute concerts which begin at 8 pm.
Also, the Harlem Meer Performance Festival is no cost and features jazz, blues, gospel and Latin music every Sunday afternoon at the Harlem Meer in Central Park. This is a great opportunity that you and your family will not want to miss.
New York is busting at the seams with entertainment. The summer time is a great time to visit and witness free shows that you will never forget.
