Rent Tickets – Hollywood Bowl Production of ‘Rent’ Welcomes Disney Star
The red carpet will be out at the Hollywood Bowl this season when the Southern California theater features the Pulitzer Prize-winning production of Rent on its stage with High School Musical star Vanessa Hudgens and actor-turned-director Neil Patrick Harris. The How I Met Your Mother star and Emmy nominee was already reported to make his musical directorial debut, reported Playbill.com, though the young actress set to play Mimi is a new addition.
Although there is a long list of stars already set to perform the songs “Seasons of Love” and “La Vie Boheme,” more actors and actresses will undoubtedly join the cast for the play’s August premier. If you haven’t yet seen this magical play, check it out when it comes to the Hollywood Bowl with Rent tickets online.
Vanessa Hudgens is best known for her breakthrough role in the Disney film High School Musical, where she played Gabriella Montez alongside her real-life beau Zac Efron. Both an actress and singer, Hudgens released her sophomore effort Identified in 2008 to critical acclaim, following her gold debut V. She recently starred in last year’s Bandslam and will appear in this summer’s new flick Beastly.
Harris, who has starred in Rent as Mark Cohen, couldn’t be more pleased with the casting of Hudgens. “She came in for a work session, and I must say, Vanessa really impressed. She looks amazing, has great vocal chops and seems really committed to honoring the somewhat iconic role of Mimi. I look forward to audiences seeing a dark, edgy and very different side of Vanessa Hudgens this August.”
Fans are also going to be seeing a different side of the often lovable actor and director Harris as he takes on his first role as musical director. Though he knows the play inside and out after playing Mark in the second national tour production of Rent, which earned him a Drama League Award, Harris will be seeing a new side of the show when he acts as director. Helping him along will be the show’s original musical supervisor Tim Weil, who worked with author Jonathan Larson on the original production.
Rent first opened in Broadway’s Nederlander in 1996 without Brand Cialis its playwright Jon Larson, who died unexpectedly on opening night of the Off-Broadway show. The show performed at the Nederlander until 2008, making it the eighth longest-running Broadway show in history with 5,124 performances. The original tours first opened in the ’90s deemed the “Angel Tour” and the “Benny Tour,” named after two of the show’s characters. The Angel Tour first opened in Boston, while the Benny Tour opened in San Diego.
The story is a modern day version of La Boheme, following a group of artistic friends who must survive paying the high rent in New York City as they deal with drug withdrawals, HIV and shutouts. The story first came to fruition in 1993 after Jon drew out his own life onto paper. Eventually the show welcomed a workshop at New York Theatre Workshop and from there the story took off. It has since become one of Broadway’s most successful stories, collecting the New York Drama Critics Circle Award, Drama Desk Award, the Obie Award, the Tony Award and the Pulitzer Prize.
